Toll-Like Receptor 4 Signaling and Drug Addiction [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
The emphasis of neuronal alterations and adaptations have long been the main focus of the studies of the mechanistic underpinnings of drug addiction. Recent studies have begun to appreciate the role of innate immune system, especially toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling in drug reward-associated behaviors and physiology.

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Elevated expression of the toll like receptors 2 and 4 in obese individuals: its significance for obesity-induced inflammation

open access: yesJournal of Inflammation, 2012
Background Expression profile of the toll like receptors (TLRs) on PBMCs is central to the regulation of proinflammatory markers. An imbalance in the TLRs expression may lead to several types of inflammatory disorders. Furthermore, the dynamic regulation

Dysregulation of Ovine Toll-Like Receptors 2 and 4 Expres-sion by Hydatid Cyst-Derived Antigens

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology, 2021
Background: Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic disease caused by infection with Echinococcus granulosus. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) as the first line of defense against various parasites play a critical role in sensing and triggering anti-parasite ...

PANoptosis in the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PANoptosis, a combination of three types of programmed cell death, is mediated by a large protein complex called a PANoptosome. In healthy bone marrow hematopoietic cells, PANoptosis is restricted by inhibitory signaling. In MDS, bone marrow cells become sensitive to the PANoptotic stimuli due to the aberrant inactivation of inhibitory signaling or ...

Cathelicidin (LL‐37) causes expression of inflammatory factors in coronary artery endothelial cells of Kawasaki disease by activating TLR4–NF‐κB–NLRP3 signaling

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, 2023
Background Kawasaki disease (KD) is a type of vasculitis with an unidentified etiology. Cathelicidin (LL‐37) may be involved in the development of the KD process; therefore, further research to investigate the molecular mechanism of LL‐37 involvement in ...

Toll-Like Receptor-4 Modulation for Cancer Immunotherapy [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition molecules. Since the discovery of the Toll pathway cascade (1, 2), our knowledge about the structure, function, and mechanics of TLRs in infectious and inflammatory conditions has increased remarkably. The role of TLR4 as a pathogen-pattern recognition receptor has been studied

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

Longitudinal Assessment of Biomarkers in ALS: Discriminative Biomarkers for Disease Progression and Survival

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To assess the association and discriminative performance of serum biomarkers with clinical disease progression and survival in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods This retrospective study, conducted at Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, TX, used longitudinal serum samples collected between January 2018 and ...
