A soil yeast Rhodotorula glutinis increased torularhodin, that is one of the final products of carotenoid biosynthesis, when loading oxygen stress. In addition, a mutant of this yeast, which produces torularhodin more than β-carotene, gained resistance to oxygen stress.

Cellular responses of microcolonial rock fungi to long-term desiccation and subsequent rehydration [PDF]
Melanised rock-inhabiting fungi are astonishingly resistant to environmental stresses. Also known as micro-colonial fungi (MCF), they are ubiquitous and even colonise bare rocks in deserts.

Identification de facteurs opératoires influents en vue d'une production microbienne optimale de torularhodine et de sa fonctionnalisation enzymatique, à partir d'études cinétiques [PDF]
The aim of this work was to determine the optimum of an original carotenoid, the torularhodin, produced by Sporobolomyces ruberrimus, in batch culture.
