Trace amine associated receptor 1 and movement control
Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2008The recently discovered trace amine associated receptors (TAARs) represent attractive potential mediators of certain aspects of movement control. The TAAR that is best characterized, TAAR1, is particularly interesting because it can be activated by a variety of monoaminergic compounds including trace amines, amphetamines and dopamine metabolites.

In-vivo pharmacology of Trace-Amine Associated Receptor 1
European Journal of Pharmacology, 2015Trace-amines (TAs) are endogenous amines that are implicated in several physiological processes including modulation of aminergic neurotransmission. These compounds exert their effect by activating a class of G protein-coupled receptors termed Trace-Amine Associated Receptors (TAARs), where TAAR1 is the only human receptor that has been shown to bind ...

Trace Amine‐associated Receptors Are Olfactory Receptors in Vertebrates
Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2009The mammalian nose is a powerful chemosensor, capable of detecting and distinguishing a myriad of chemicals. Sensory neurons in the olfactory epithelium contain two types of chemosensory G protein‐coupled receptors (GPCRs): odorant receptors (ORs), which are encoded by the largest gene family in mammals, and trace amine‐associated receptors (TAARs), a ...

Trace amine-associated receptors, a novel class of G-protein coupled receptors which respond to trace amines but not to classical biogenic amines, have been found to be expressed in heart. Therefore, we investigated the cardiac effects of the trace amines p-tyramine, beta-phenylethylamine, octopamine, and tryptamine.

Trace Amine-Associated Receptor 1 Agonists for Schizophrenia
Canadian Journal of Health Technologies, 2022TAAR1 agonists are an emerging drug class in the treatment of schizophrenia as they may offer a novel mechanism of action for symptom management without blocking dopamine D2 receptors, unlike currently available antipsychotic medications that act primarily via D2 binding. Two TAAR1 agonists are currently in clinical development for schizophrenia.

Trace Amine-Associated Receptor 1 Is a Modulator of the Dopamine Transporter
The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2007Trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) is a G protein-coupled receptor activated by a broad range of monoamines and amphetamine-related psychostimulants. Recent studies demonstrated wide distribution of TAAR1 in brain, coexpression of TAAR1 with dopamine transporter (DAT) in a subset of dopamine neurons in both mouse and rhesus monkey substantia ...

Deorphanization of Olfactory Trace Amine-Associated Receptors
Olfaction is the primary sense used by most animals to perceive the external world. The mouse olfactory system is comprised of several sensory structures, the largest of which is the main olfactory epithelium (MOE). Olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) located within the MOE detect odors and pheromones using dedicated seven transmembrane, G protein-coupledKang-Ying, Qian, Yue, Hao, Qian, Li

Trace Amine-Associated Receptor 1 Modulates Dopaminergic Activity
The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2008The recent identification of the trace amine-associated receptor (TAAR)1 provides an opportunity to dissociate the effects of trace amines on the dopamine transporter from receptor-mediated effects. To separate both effects on a physiological level, a Taar1 knockout mouse line was generated.

Expression of Trace Amine-Associated Receptors in Human Nasal Mucosa
Chemosensory Perception, 2010Trace amine-associated receptors (TAARs) have recently been identified in mouse olfactory epithelium (OE) and may be implicated in the detection of volatile amines, including pheromones. We investigated TAAR expression in human nasal mucosa, evaluating 32 nasal mucosa biopsies obtained from 16 patients with normal olfactory function undergoing routine ...
