The Case for TAAR1 as a Modulator of Central Nervous System Function

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
TAAR1 is widely expressed across the mammalian brain, particularly in limbic and monoaminergic areas, allegedly involved in mood, attention, memory, fear, and addiction.

Structure‐Property Relationships in Catecholamine Coatings for Broad Surface Functionalization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by mussel adhesive proteins (MAPs), six catecholamine molecules with different molecular structure were systematically characterized and compared based on their ability to form homogeneous, reactive coatings. Highlighting candidates capable of balancing coating properties of interest, their successful use as primer layers for organic and ...

Endosomal Escape of siRNA Polyplexes: A Molecular Dynamics Perspective on Underlying Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics simulations reveal distinct endosomal escape mechanisms of siRNA nanoparticles, ranging from electrostatic membrane attachment to hydrophobic membrane fusion. Hydrophobic residues and anionic endosomal lipids emerge as key determinants of membrane disruption, linking molecular interactions to experimental delivery performance and ...

Microfluidic Nano‐Assembly of Red‐Blood‐Cell (RBC) Lipids and Components for Engineering Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered red blood cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (eRBCEVs) are synthesized via controlled microfluidic assembly from native RBC lipids, enabling tunable encapsulation of proteins, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, and viral vectors. The platform demonstrates reproducible nanoscale architecture, preserved membrane composition, and functional cargo ...

Near‐Infrared Light‐Activated Polydopamine Nanoparticles Conjugated With Transferrin Peptides for Enhanced Brain Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Tf‐PDA NPs combine a receptor‐mediated targeting with mild photothermal activation to enhance nanoparticle accumulation in the brain. NIR‐activated Tf‐PDA NPs increase BBB permeability to NPs in vitro and in vivo without inducing cytotoxicity or adverse immune responses.

The Trace Amine-Associated Receptor 1 Agonist 3-Iodothyronamine Induces Biased Signaling at the Serotonin 1b Receptor

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2018
Trace amine-associated receptors (TAARs) belong to the class A G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) and are evolutionary related to aminergic receptors. TAARs have been identified to mediate effects of trace amines.

Measurement of gas-phase ammonia and amines in air by collection onto an ion exchange resin and analysis by ion chromatography [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2014
Ammonia and amines are common trace gases in the atmosphere and have a variety of both biogenic and anthropogenic sources, with a major contribution coming from agricultural sites. In addition to their malodorous nature, both ammonia and amines have been
