Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

A Novel Collision Avoidance Logic for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Using Real-Time Trajectory Planning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
An effective collision avoidance logic should prevent collision without excessive alerting. This requirement would be even more stringent for an automatic collision avoidance logic, which is probably required by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to mitigate ...

Research on numerical prediction technology for nuclear pollution dispersion based on hybrid single particle Lagrangian integrated trajectory (HYSPLIT) model

open access: yesFushe yanjiu yu fushe gongyi xuebao
Due to the lack of research on prediction technology for atmospheric diffusion of nuclear pollution in China, this study used the hybrid single particle Lagrangian integrated trajectory (HYSPLIT) model to perform numerical prediction tests of nuclear ...

Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Adult Learning in STEM Disciplines

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) are reshaping adult learning in STEM by providing adaptive, data‐driven instruction across classrooms, workplaces, and informal environments. In the context of ITS, this article compares generative AI, which creates personalized explanations and practice materials, with explainable AI, which focuses on ...

Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System Based Path Planning for Excavator Arm

open access: yesJournal of Robotics, 2018
This paper presents a scheme based on Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems (ANFIS) to generate trajectory for excavator arm. Firstly, the trajectory is predesigned with some specific points in the work space to meet the requirements about the shape ...

SIMULATION OF EMBOLIZATION PARTICLE TRAJECTORIES

open access: yesFrontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, 2011
A numerical simulation has been performed on the hemodynamics associated with embolization procedures. The flow geometry includes a multibranch artery which is upstream of a targeted tumor. During the procedure, drug-eluting particles are released into the local arterial geometry and are carried downstream by the flowing blood.

A multiple replica approach to simulate reactive trajectories [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2011
A method to generate reactive trajectories, namely equilibrium trajectories leaving a metastable state and ending in another one is proposed. The algorithm is based on simulating in parallel many copies of the system, and selecting the replicas which have reached the highest values along a chosen one-dimensional reaction coordinate.

Gait and Trajectory Optimization for Legged Systems Through Phase-Based End-Effector Parameterization

open access: yesIEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, 2018
We present a single trajectory optimization formulation for legged locomotion that automatically determines the gait sequence, step timings, footholds, swing-leg motions, and six-dimensional body motion over nonflat terrain, without any additional ...

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Comparing the Effect of Semi‐Immersive Virtual Reality, Computerized Cognitive Training, and Traditional Rehabilitation on Cognitive Function in Multiple Sclerosis: A Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Cognitive impairment is a common non‐motor symptom in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), negatively affecting autonomy and Quality of Life (QoL). Innovative rehabilitation strategies, such as semi‐immersive virtual reality (VR) and computerized cognitive training (CCT), may offer advantages over traditional cognitive rehabilitation (TCR ...
