The Elongation-Termination Decision in Transcription
Science, 1992At any template position, the decision to extend the transcript by one residue or to release the nascent RNA represents a kinetic competition between elongation and termination pathways. This competition is discussed in terms of alternative Eyring transition state barriers; changes in termination efficiency correspond to small changes in the relative ...

Transcription termination in the dnaA gene
Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1991The termination of transcription in the dnaA gene of E. coli was analyzed using transcriptional fusions to the galactokinase gene, S1 nuclease mapping and quantification of translation products by Western blots. The majority of transcripts originating from dnaA promoters terminated at several positions within a 200 bp region inside the dnaA reading ...

Rho-dependent termination and ATPases in transcript termination
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 2002Transcription factor Rho is a ring-shaped, homohexameric protein that causes transcript termination through actions on nascent RNAs that are coupled to ATP hydrolysis. The Rho polypeptide has a distinct RNA-binding domain (RNA-BD) of known structure as well as an ATP-binding domain (ATP-BD) for which a structure has been proposed based on homology ...

Detection and Characterization of Transcription Termination
2011In most eukaryotes, the generation of the 3' end and transcription termination are initiated by cleavage of the pre-mRNA upstream of the polyadenylation site. This cleavage initiates 5'-3' degradation of the 3' end cleavage product by the exoribonuclease Rat1p leading to the dissociation of the RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) complex.

Coupling of transcription termination to RNAi
Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2007In metazoans, the mechanisms of transcriptional termination by RNA polymerase II (Pol II) and accelerated decay of messenger RNA (mRNA) following transcription shutdown are linked by sharing the same sequence elements and mRNA elongation, processing and termination factors.

Mechanisms of Bacterial Transcription Termination
Journal of Molecular Biology, 2019Bacterial transcription termination, described mostly for Escherichia coli, occurs in three recognized ways: intrinsic termination, an activity only of the core RNAP enzyme and transcript sequences that encode an RNA hairpin and terminal uridine-rich segment; termination by the enzyme Rho, an ATP-dependent RNA translocase that releases RNA by forcing ...

CONTROL OF TRANSCRIPTION TERMINATION IN PROKARYOTES
Annual Review of Genetics, 1996▪ Abstract  A growing number of genetic systems have been shown to be controlled at the level of premature termination of transcription. Genes in this class contain transcription termination signals in the region upstream of the coding sequence. The activity of these regulatory termination signals is controlled through a variety of mechanisms.

Transcription termination control in bacteria
Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2000Transcription termination is a dynamic process and is subject to control at a number of levels. New information about the molecular mechanisms of transcription elongation and termination, as well as new insights into protein-RNA interactions, are providing a framework for increased understanding of the molecular details of transcription termination ...
