Microneedles for transdermal drug delivery
Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews, 2004The success of transdermal drug delivery has been severely limited by the inability of most drugs to enter the skin at therapeutically useful rates. Recently, the use of micron-scale needles in increasing skin permeability has been proposed and shown to dramatically increase transdermal delivery, especially for macromolecules.

Transdermal drug delivery involves the continuous administration of therapeutic molecules through the skin. It has the advantage of maintaining constant drug plasma levels and improving patient compliance. Compared to the oral route, losses in bioavailability due to first-pass liver metabolism are reduced. This paper describes the theory of transdermal

The transdermal delivery of peptide drugs, though ill-favoured by their hydrophilicity and high molecular mass, would seem very attractive from the pharmacotherapeutical and patient compliance point of view. In some cases, effective transdermal dosing has been achieved in vivo, especially with the aid of iontophoresis.

Transdermal Delivery of Testosterone*
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1987We administered testosterone transdermally to six hypogonadal men by applying a thin flexible polymeric membrane containing testosterone to the scrotum. Each man wore a placebo membrane and three doses (5, 10, and 15 mg) of testosterone-containing membranes for 22 h/day. Each dose was worn for 1 week, and one dose was worn a second week.

Transdermal carbon monoxide delivery
Journal of Controlled Release, 2023Overuse injuries or acute trauma in joints often lead to painful tendinopathy, and pharmacological treatment effects are limited. The site of the disease is hard to reach with drugs, both systemically and through the skin. Therapeutic gases may close this gap, as they permeate easier through tissues than conventional small molecules. We present a patch

Proposome for transdermal delivery of tofacitinib
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2020Tofacitinib citrate (TC) has recently gained interest in treating skin disorders such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and baldness. Unfortunately, the oral administration shows side effects, such as decreased neutrophil counts. To this end, the topical delivery of TC can be used to reduce the risk associated with systemic exposure.
