Permeation Enhancers for Transdermal Drug Delivery

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2000
The transdermal route has been recognized as one of the highly potential routes of systemic drug delivery and provides the advantage of avoidance of the first-pass effect, ease of use and withdrawal (in case of side effects), and better patient compliance.

Transdermal permeation enhancement of N-trimethyl chitosan for testosterone

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2008
The aim of this study was to evaluate the transdermal permeation enhancement of N-trimethyl chitosan (TMC) with different degrees of quaternization (DQ). TMCs with DQ of 40 and 60% (TMC40 and TMC60) were synthesized and characterized by (1)H NMR. Testosterone (TS) used as an effective drug, four different gels were prepared without enhancer, with 5 ...

Homoharringtonine is a transdermal granular permeation enhancer

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2022
Although modulation of claudin-1-based tight junction (TJ) in stratum granulosum is an option for transdermal absorption of drugs, granular permeation enhancers have never been developed. We previously found that homoharringtonine (HHT), a natural alkanoid, weakened intestinal epithelial barrier with changing expression and cellular localization of TJ ...

In Vitro Studies on Transdermal Permeation of Butorphanol

Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, 2007
The influence of the donor vehicles pH and the addition of laurocapram or transkarbam 12 as permeation enhancers on the transdermal permeation of butorphanol through human skin were examined with the aim of finding out about its possible use in the transdermal delivery system.

Physicochemical aspects of transdermal permeation

Journal of Controlled Release, 1987
Abstract The nature and state of lipids are often important regulators in many membrane functions and properties. Current studies probe the physicochemical aspects of the enhanced permeabilities of lipophilic solutes through hairless mouse stratum corneum.

Transdermal permeation of neutral molecules by skin electroporation

Journal of Controlled Release, 1998
Electroporation of skin has recently been shown to enhance transport of charged molecules across skin by up to four orders of magnitude. This study demonstrates that high-voltage pulses can also increase transdermal permeation of two neutral model solutes, i.e. mannitol and water, up to 100-fold.

Amino acid derivatives as transdermal permeation enhancers

Journal of Controlled Release, 2013
Transdermal permeation enhancers are compounds that temporarily decrease skin barrier properties to promote drug flux. In this study, we investigated enhancers with amino acids (proline, sarcosine, alanine, β-alanine, and glycine) attached to hydrophobic chain(s) via a biodegradable ester link.

Transdermal self-permeation enhancement of ibuprofen

Journal of Controlled Release, 2004
The objective of this study was to prepare saturated solutions of ibuprofen, of different concentrations, and to investigate their effect on permeation of ibuprofen across rat epidermis. Ibuprofen saturated solutions were prepared using 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 M disodium hydrogen phosphate solution (DHP).
