VCP-dependent muscle degeneration is linked to defects in a dynamic tubular lysosomal network in vivo. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Lysosomes are classically viewed as vesicular structures to which cargos are delivered for degradation. Here, we identify a network of dynamic, tubular lysosomes that extends throughout Drosophila muscle, in vivo. Live imaging reveals that autophagosomes

Suppression of polyglutamine toxicity by a Drosophila homolog of myeloid leukemia factor 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The toxicity of an abnormally long polyglutamine [poly(Q)] tract within specific proteins is the molecular lesion shared by Huntington's disease (HD) and several other hereditary neurodegenerative disorders.

Gene flow from weedy rice to T1c-19 transgenic rice stacked with cry1C*/bar genes and fitness of F1 hybrids

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionBidirectional gene flow via pollen between transgenic rice and weedy rice could occur in natural fields. Gene flow from transgenic rice to weedy rice has been confirmed in many studies, and thus results showed that F1 hybrids could persist in

A built-in mechanism to mitigate the spread of insect-resistance and herbicide-tolerance transgenes into weedy rice populations. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BACKGROUND: The major challenge of cultivating genetically modified (GM) rice (Oryza sativa) at the commercial scale is to prevent the spread of transgenes from GM cultivated rice to its coexisting weedy rice (O. sativa f. spontanea).

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

The changing role of cell culture in the generation of transgenic livestock [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Transgenesis may allow the generation of farm animals with altered phenotype, animal models for research and animal bioreactors. Although such animals have been produced, the time and expense involved in generating transgenic livestock and then ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Ancestral roles of the Fam20C family of secreted protein kinases revealed in C. elegans. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Fam20C is a secreted protein kinase mutated in Raine syndrome, a human skeletal disorder. In vertebrates, bone and enamel proteins are major Fam20C substrates.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Functional characterisation of constitutive expresser of pathogenesis-related genes 5 : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Biology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
As reported previously, CPR5 negatively regulates the onset of leaf death, hypersensitive response, disease resistance and early leaf senescence. cpr5 plants contain aberrant trichomes and higher levels of ROS, SA and JA.
