Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Translation of a book of evidence and its impact on a criminal trial - A case study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Interpreting in a legal setting in Ireland is not subject to any regulation. Police and court interpreters are neither certified nor tested. The current study aims to analyse the impact on a criminal trial of unqualified interpreters’ assistance in the ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Combining multi-domain statistical machine translation models using automatic classifiers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper presents a set of experiments on Domain Adaptation of Statistical Machine Translation systems. The experiments focus on Chinese-English and two domain-specific corpora. The paper presents a novel approach for combining multiple domain-trained

Translation technology explored: Has a three-year maturation period done Google Translate any good?

open access: yesStellenbosch Papers in Linguistics Plus, 2014
Language users in multilingual environments who are trying to make sense of the linguistic challenges they face may well regard the advent of online machine translation (MT) applications as a welcome intervention.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Translation of personal official documents : what Australian practitioners say

open access: yes, 2022
The translation of personal official documents has been, to a great extent, an opaque process: little research has been conducted and, accordingly, little is known about professional practices in this area. The literature and guidelines available tend to

QuEst for High Quality Machine Translation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Prague Bulletin of Mathematical Linguistics, 2015
Abstract In this paper we describe the use of QuEst, a framework that aims to obtain predictions on the quality of translations, to improve the performance of machine translation (MT) systems without changing their internal functioning. We apply QuEst to experiments with: i.
