List context effects in languages with opaque and transparent orthographies: a challenge for models of reading [PDF]
This paper offers a review of data which show that reading is a flexible and dynamic process and that readers can exert strategic control over it. Two main hypotheses on the control of reading processes have been suggested: the route de-emphasis hypothesis and the time-criterion hypothesis.

Abstract Background This study investigated the development of primary school children's error‐related adjustments in reading and arithmetic, both cross‐sectionally and longitudinally. Aims We aimed to uncover monitoring‐based cognitive control processes and often‐overlooked strategy use in academic tasks requiring a balancing of speed and accuracy ...

Reading Derived Words by Italian Children With and Without Dyslexia: The Effect of Root Length
Children with dyslexia are extremely slow at reading long words but they are faster with stimuli composed of roots and derivational suffixes (e.g., CASSIERE, ‘cashier’) than stimuli not decomposable in morphemes (e.g., CAMMELLO, ‘camel’).

Abstract Cutout animation is one of the earliest forms of animation, and to this day remains a popular technique featured in numerous films including Monty Python and South Park series. Most computer animation systems, however, focus on different styles, including cel animation, making cutout animation somewhat underexplored.

Tubes or Ribbons? Comparing Texture‐space Visualization for Multivariate Line Data
Abstract Multivariate line data is critical for analyzing flow fields, agent systems, and dynamic trajectories. Embedding secondary variables along spatial paths using surface‐based primitives such as ribbons and circular tubes introduces challenges related to perspective, scale, and distortion.

Learning to read is a milestone in a child's life, and reading ability is a strong predictor of academic outcomes. Some studies have revealed that individual differences in the capacity for implicit statistical learning are linked with children's reading

Can LLMs Simulate Target Users in Visualization Case Studies?
Abstract Case studies are central to evaluating visualization research as they provide evidence for how the developed approaches support real users, real analytical work, and real data. Conducting such studies can be challenging, since target users with relevant domain expertise are often scarce or even entirely unavailable, while the visualization ...

Cognitive processes and neural correlates of reading in languages with graded levels of orthographic transparency: Spanish, English and Hebrew [PDF]
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. This thesis examined the cognitive processes and neural correlates involved in reading Spanish (a transparent orthography), English (an intermediate ...
