Impaired neutrophil extracellular trap formation in β-thalassaemia/HbE

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Neutrophil dysfunction contributes to a high susceptibility to severe bacterial infection which is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in β-thalassaemia/HbE, especially in splenectomised patients.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Superoxide formation by protoporphyrin as seen by spin trapping [PDF]

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1979
The cutaneous photosensitivity of individuals with erythropoietic protoporphyria has been associated with the abnormally large amounts of protoporphyrin, found in the red blood cells [ 11. Patients with erythropoietic protoporphyria are sensitive to radiation near 400 nm which corresponds with the absorption maxima of protoporphyrin [2].

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Physical Modeling of Scale Differences in Large Subsalt Detachment Folds: A Case Study from the Eastern Kuqa Foreland Basin

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This research reveals the coupling mechanism between structural deformation and hydrocarbon accumulation. The Dibei area in the Kuqa Depression represents a key hydrocarbon exploration domain within the northern Tarim foreland basin.

Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae induces sustained lung oxidative stress and protease expression. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a prevalent bacterium found in a variety of chronic respiratory diseases. The role of this bacterium in the pathogenesis of lung inflammation is not well defined.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

A C0(_2) laser lattice experiment for cold atoms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis presents work on a laser cooling experiment designed for trapping Rb atoms in a CO(_2) laser optical trap. Some emphasis is placed on experimental features designed to allow the future implementation of a neutral atom quantum computation ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.
