FORENSIC EVALUATION OF DIFFUSE AXONAL INJURY

open access: yes
<p>Traumatic brain injury is damage to the skull and brain by various mechanical agents during trauma. Sudden damage to the brain in emergency situations leads to irreversible processes.

Traumatic Brain Injury in Iowa: An Analysis of Core Surveillance Data 2006-2008, July 15, 2011 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Termed the “silent epidemic”, traumatic brain injury is the most debilitating outcome of injury characterized by the irreversibility of its damages, long-term effects on quality of life, and healthcare costs.

Inhibition of MEKK3 Prevents Cerebral Cavernous Malformation Progression Via Restoring Endothelial Integrity and Restricting Microglial Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we demonstrate that aberrant MEKK3 signaling in endothelial cells and microglia drives the progression of cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs). Furthermore, we identify DPDH as a potent small‐molecule MEKK3 inhibitor with substantial therapeutic potential for CCM treatment.

4‐Aminopyridine promotes functional recovery and remyelination in acute peripheral nerve injury

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2016
Traumatic peripheral nerve damage is a major medical problem without effective treatment options. In repurposing studies on 4‐aminopyridine (4‐AP), a potassium channel blocker that provides symptomatic relief in some chronic neurological afflictions, we ...

Immunohistochemical detection of axonal injury in chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) with traumatic and fatal brain injury

open access: yesMacedonian Veterinary Review
Estimating the time of death after traumatic brain injury (TBI) in wildlife is a significant challenge in forensic veterinary medicine. The understanding of histopathological changes and predicting the survival time can prompt critical emergency measures

Traumatic brain injury in New Zealand: a silent epidemic? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In 2008 I was fortunate enough to be invited to be part of a research team on a large population based project focusing on the incidence and outcome of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in New Zealand (led by Professor Valery Feigin National Institute of ...

Sacral Neural Crest‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Promote Pelvic Ganglion Repair Through Anti‐Pyroptotic Effects Involving ANXA1–FPR2 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicles derived from human pluripotent stem cell‐derived sacral neural crest cells promote repair of injured major pelvic ganglia and improve colorectal function. These vesicles reduce oxidative stress and pyroptosis, with ANXA1–FPR2 signaling contributing to their protective effects, and show a favorable therapeutic profile compared ...

Connecting cellular mechanisms and extracellular vesicle cargo in traumatic brain injury

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Traumatic brain injury is followed by a cascade of dynamic and complex events occurring at the cellular level. These events include: diffuse axonal injury, neuronal cell death, blood-brain barrier break down, glial activation and neuroinflammation, edema,
