Interpersonal psychotherapy and mirtazapine versus mirtazapine alone in treatment resistant depressed patients with sequential functional brain scans of dopamine D2 receptors with IBZM spect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Twenty DSM-IV major depressed patients who had not responded to at least one previous trial of antidepressant therapy at an adequate dose and duration agreed to participate in this study. They were randomly assigned to receive either mirtazapine (30-45mg)

Clozapine in treatment-resistant schizophrenia [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychiatry, 2017
In an era when 11 meta-analyses are published every day, there are sometimes 2 on the same topic which do not agree. As such a situation can be very confusing, systematic reviewers should discuss their findings in the light of existing reviews to make the differences understandable to readers.[1 ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Addressing brain metabolic connectivity in treatment-resistant schizophrenia: a novel graph theory-driven application of 18F-FDG-PET with antipsychotic dose correction

open access: yesSchizophrenia
Few studies using Positron Emission Tomography with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG-PET) have examined the neurobiological basis of antipsychotic resistance in schizophrenia, primarily focusing on metabolic activity, with none investigating connectivity ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

World Antimalarial Resistance Network (WARN) III: Molecular markers for drug resistant malaria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Molecular markers for drug resistant malaria represent public health tools of great but mostly unrealized potential value. A key reason for the failure of molecular resistance markers to live up to their potential is that data on the their prevalence is ...

Systematic review of clinical effectiveness of interventions for treatment resistant late-life depression.

open access: yes
Treatment-resistant late-life depression (TRLLD) affects nearly half of older adults with major depression. This systematic review evaluates published evidence of effectiveness of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for TRLLD.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
