Blood Lactate as a Prognostic Biomarker for Survival and Weight Loss in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: An Exploratory–Validation Study

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Lactate is increasingly recognized as an energy substrate, but its relevance to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) remains unclear. We examined whether blood lactate is associated with survival and weight loss in ALS. Methods This retrospective study included an Australian exploratory cohort and a Japanese validation cohort with clinical ...

Non-linear connection between the triglyceride–glucose index and prediabetes risk among Chinese adults: a secondary retrospective cohort study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research
Background The triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index has garnered recognition as a surrogate marker for insulin resistance, a pivotal factor in the pathogenesis of various metabolic disorders.

Hepatic morphology and serum biochemical profile according to dry and rainy seasons in Pygocentrus nattereri (Characiformes: Serrasalmidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated the physiological and morphological adaptations of the liver of the carnivorous fish Pygocentrus nattereri (piranha) in response to seasonal variations (dry and rainy seasons) in the Brazilian Pantanal. The objective was to describe how the liver, a central organ in metabolic regulation, responds to environmental ...

Triglyceride–glucose index and lipid ratios in women with and without polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesTherapeutic Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism
Background: The pathophysiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is complex and heterogeneous. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the triglyceride–glucose index and lipid ratios in women with and without PCOS.

Growth Hormone Promotes Lipolysis and Impairs Insulin Sensitivity by Activating the ERK/HSL Signaling Pathway in Bovine Adipocytes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study was to evaluate the role of GH in lipolysis and insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes and clarify the underlying mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that GH activates ERK/HSL signaling pathway, promotes lipolysis, and impairs insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes.

Association of triglyceride-glucose index with sarcopenia: NHANES 2011–2014

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology
BackgroundA newly developed technique, the Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, supplies a more straightforward method to identify IR than the HOMA-IR (Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance). Yet no methodical analysis has looked into the link involving the TyG index and low muscle mass (LMM), low muscle strength (LMS), and sarcopenia within ...
