tRNA-halves are prognostic biomarkers for patients with prostate cancer

Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations, 2018
Noncoding RNAs play an important role in carcinogenesis; a number of tRNA-halves are expressed in response to androgen stimulation and are involved in prostate cancer (CaP) initiation and progression. In this study, we evaluated the expression profile of androgen-dependent tRNA-halves in CaP.Total RNA was isolated from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded ...

tRNA-derived fragments and tRNA halves: The new players in cancers

Cancer Letters, 2019
tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) and tRNA halves (tiRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs derived from precursor tRNAs or mature tRNAs. Depending on the sources, tRFs can be divided into tRF-1, tRF-2, tRF-3, tRF-5, and i-tRF; tiRNAs can be divided into 5'tiRNA and 3'tiRNA. Both tRFs and tiRNAs play important roles in tumorigenesis.

Transfer RNA-derived fragments and tRNA halves: biogenesis, biological functions and their roles in diseases

Journal of Molecular Medicine, 2018
The number of studies on non-coding RNAs has increased substantially in recent years owing to their importance in gene regulation. However, the biological functions of small RNAs from abundant species of housekeeping non-coding RNAs (rRNA, tRNA, etc.) remain a highly studied topic.

Maternal circulating syncytiotrophoblast-derived extracellular vesicles contain biologically active 5’-tRNA halves [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2019
Abstract The placenta releases syncytiotrophoblast-derived extracellular vesicles (STB-EV) into the maternal circulation throughout gestation. STB-EV dependent signalling is believed to contribute to the widespread maternal adaptive physiological changes seen in pregnancy.

Stress Induced tRNA Halves (tiRNAs) as Biomarkers for Stroke and Stroke Therapy; Pre-clinical Study

Neuroscience, 2020
tiRNAs are small non-coding RNAs generated by angiogenin-mediated tRNA cleavage during cellular stress. Some tiRNAs were shown to be cytoprotective, while other reports indicate that the generation of tiRNAs is cytotoxic. We used rat model of focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury to study the generation and regulation of tiRNAs following in ...

5′-tRNA Halves are Dysregulated in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma

Journal of Urology, 2018
In various malignancies RNA fragments are dysregulated. Our study was designed to determine the expression of 4, 5'-tRNA halves in the tissue and serum of patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma.Tissue and serum samples of patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma and nonmalignant disease were collected prospectively in our biobank.

Quantitative and qualitative detection of tRNAs, tRNA halves and tRFs in human cancer samples: Molecular grounds for biomarker development and clinical perspectives

open access: yesGene
Transfer RNAs (tRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs playing a central role during protein synthesis. Besides translation, growing evidence suggests that in many contexts, precursor or mature tRNAs can also be processed into smaller fragments playing many non-canonical regulatory roles in different biological pathways with oncogenic relevance.
