Chemical and biological analysis of 4-acyloxy-3-nitrocoumarins as trypanocidal agents

open access: yesArabian Journal of Chemistry, 2021
Chagas disease is the most widespread contagious tropical disease in Latin America, being an important public health problem. Treatments against this disease are still very ineffective, presenting several side effects. Therefore, the search for alternative therapeutic solutions is urgent.

Development of a Quantitative Method for Detection of Multiclass Veterinary Drugs in Feed Using Modified QuPPe Extraction and LC–MS/MS

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
A method was developed for the rapid and quantitative analysis of 30 veterinary drugs belonging to 17 classes (amphenicols (1), anthelmintics (1), cephalosporins (4), coccidiostats (1), lincosamides (1), macrolide (1), nitroimidazole (1), penicillins (3),

Metabolite-dependent regulation of gene expression in trypanosoma brucei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mechanisms regulating gene expression in trypanosomatid protozoa differ significantly from those in other eukaryotes. Transcription of the genome appears to be more or less constitutive with the polyadenylation and trans-splicing of large polycistronic ...

Trypanosoma cruzi: analysis of two different strains after piplartine treatment

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2018
The hemoflagellate protozoan, Trypanosoma cruzi, mainly transmitted by triatomine insects through blood transfusion or from mother-to-child, causes Chagas' disease.

Structure-based design and synthesis of antiparasitic pyrrolopyrimidines targeting pteridine reductase 1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The treatment of Human African Trypanosomiasis remains a major unmet health need in sub-Saharan Africa. Approaches involving new molecular targets are important and pteridine reductase 1 (PTR1), an enzyme that reduces dihydrobiopterin in Trypanosoma spp.

The trans-Sialidase from Trypanosoma cruzi a Putative Target for Trypanocidal Agents [PDF]

open access: yesThe Open Parasitology Journal, 2010
Trypanosomatid protozoa are parasites of considerable medical and economical importance because they are the causative agents of chronic human and livestock diseases endemic in developing countries. Trypanosoma cruzi is the causative agent of Chagas´ disease, present in most of Latin America. The biology of this parasite presents some unusual features,

Scalable Access to N‑Acylindole Linkages: Enabling the Synthesis of Antitrypanosomal Noncanonical Cyclic Peptides for Chagas Disease

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A gram‐scale supply of bulbiferamide A, which features a rare N‐acylindole linkage and possesses potent inhibitory activity against Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigotes (IC50 = 4.1 µM)—the causative parasite of Chagas disease—was successfully achieved. Moreover, the cyclization strategy developed in this study facilitated the synthesis of noncanonical ...

Acrylonitrile Derivatives against Trypanosoma cruzi: In Vitro Activity and Programmed Cell Death Study

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2021
The neglected infection known as Chagas disease, caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, results in more than 7000 deaths per year, with an increasing number of cases in non-endemic areas such as Europe or the United States.

Antiprotozoal activity of flavonoids from Eupatorium arnottianum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Dichloromethane and ethanol extracts of Eupatorium arnottianum were evaluated for invitroleishmanicidal activity. The dichloromethane extract produced 80% and 85% of growthinhibition on both Leishmania mexicana and Leishmania amazonensis promastigotes ...

Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Properties of Piper spp. Volatile Oils That Inhibit Pathogenic Microorganisms

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
The samples were fungicidal against Candida, with MICs ranging from 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, and fungistatic against Penicillium adametzii, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger, with MICs of 1000 μg/mL. The volatile oils of Piper aduncum and Piper marginatum reduced the viability of MDA‐MB231 cells.
