P-type transport ATPases in Leishmania and Trypanosoma

open access: yesParasite, 2019
P-type ATPases are critical to the maintenance and regulation of cellular ion homeostasis and membrane lipid asymmetry due to their ability to move ions and phospholipids against a concentration gradient by utilizing the energy of ATP hydrolysis.

VSGs Expressed during Natural T. b. gambiense Infection Exhibit Extensive Sequence Divergence and a Subspecies-Specific Bias towards Type B N-Terminal Domains

open access: yesmBio, 2022
Trypanosoma brucei gambiense is the primary causative agent of human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), a vector-borne disease endemic to West and Central Africa.

Population genetics of Trypanosoma brucei circulating in Glossina palpalis palpalis and domestic animals of the Fontem sleeping sickness focus of Cameroon

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background Human African Trypanosomiasis is still a public health threat in Cameroon. To assess Trypanosoma brucei strains circulating in the Fontem sleeping sickness focus, we conducted a genetic structure study using microsatellites to assess genotypes

SUMOylation in Trypanosoma brucei

open access: yesPeerJ, 2013
Small ubiquitin like modifier (SUMO) proteins are involved in many processes in eukaryotes. We here show that Trypanosoma brucei SUMO (Tb927.5.3210) modifies many proteins. The levels of SUMOylation were unaffected by temperature changes but were increased by severe oxidative stress.

Design, synthesis, and antiprotozoal evaluation of new 2,4-bis[(substituted-aminomethyl)phenyl]quinoline, 1,3-bis[(substituted-aminomethyl)phenyl]isoquinoline and 2,4-bis[(substituted-aminomethyl)phenyl]quinazoline derivatives

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, 2020
A series of new 2,4-bis[(substituted-aminomethyl)phenyl]quinoline, 1,3-bis[(substituted-aminomethyl)phenyl]isoquinoline, and 2,4-bis[(substituted-aminomethyl)phenyl]quinazoline derivatives was designed, synthesised, and evaluated in vitro against three ...

Anti-trypanosomal activity and DNA fingerprinting of fifteen Euphorbia species using ISSR and SCoT markers

open access: yesBeni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 2021
Background Euphorbia is the largest genus in family Euphorbiaceae with a great biological and genetic diversity. The anti-trypanosomal activity of the crude extract of 15 Euphorbia species against Trypanosoma brucei brucei was carried out.

Raman spectroscopic analysis of skin as a diagnostic tool for Human African Trypanosomiasis.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2021
Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) has been responsible for several deadly epidemics throughout the 20th century, but a renewed commitment to disease control has significantly reduced new cases and motivated a target for the elimination of Trypanosoma ...

Chimerization at the AQP2–AQP3 locus is the genetic basis of melarsoprol–pentamidine cross-resistance in clinical Trypanosoma brucei gambiense isolates

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Drugs and Drug Resistance, 2015
Aquaglyceroporin-2 is a known determinant of melarsoprol–pentamidine cross-resistance in Trypanosoma brucei brucei laboratory strains. Recently, chimerization at the AQP2–AQP3 tandem locus was described from melarsoprol–pentamidine cross-resistant ...

Golgi-associated phosphohydrolases in Trypanosoma brucei brucei

open access: yesMolecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1997
Various parasitic protozoa of the family Trypanosomatidae such as Crithidia spp. [1]; Trypanosoma cruzi [2]; Leishmania donovani [3] and salivarian trypanosomes [4-8] have been shown to contain acid phosphatase activity (EC.3.1.3.2, orthophosphoric-monoester phosphohydrolase activity).

Structure of thioredoxin from Trypanosoma brucei brucei

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2003
The three‐dimensional structure of thioredoxin from Trypanosoma brucei brucei has been determined at 1.4 Å resolution. The overall structure is more similar to that of human thioredoxin than to any other thioredoxin structure. The most striking difference to other thioredoxins is the absence of a buried carboxylate behind the active site cysteines ...
