In Silico Evaluation of a Mutant Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin-1 (TSST-1) of Staphylococcus aureus as a Putative Vaccine Candidate [PDF]
Introduction: The development of a vaccine against Staphylococcus aureus has proven to be much more difficult than expected. In this study, we considered and analyzed a mutant Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin-1 (TSST-1) as a potential vaccine candidate ...

Prevalence of Toxic Shock Syndrome Toxin 1 (TSST-1)-Producing Strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Antibody to TSST-1 among Healthy Japanese Women [PDF]
ABSTRACT Many cases of neonatal toxic shock syndrome (TSS)-like exanthematous disease but few cases of menstrual TSS (mTSS) have been reported in Japan. We determined the prevalence of mucosal colonization with Staphylococcus aureus and of positive antibodies to TSS toxin 1 (TSST-1) among 209 healthy ...

The Complexity of Electroencephalographic Signal Decreases during the Social Stress
Social stress affects brain function. Trier social stress test (TSST) is a standard test to assess it. The study aimed to analyze the electroencephalographic (EEG) recording during and after TSST in healthy subjects.

Colony immunoblot assay for the detection of staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1) with anti-TSST-1 F(ab')2 fragments [PDF]
Toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1), an exoprotein of Staphylococcus aureus, is strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of TSS. Detection of TSST-1, however, is often hindered in immunoassays because of the cosecretion of protein A, a genetic trait which appears to be coordinately expressed with other exoproteins in S. aureus.

Analysis of the early response to TSST-1 reveals Vβ-unrestricted extravasation, compartmentalization of the response, and unresponsiveness but not anergy to TSST-1 [PDF]
AbstractStaphylococcal toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1) is the major cause of toxic shock syndrome and is important in the pathophysiology of staphylococcal septic shock. Our study about the biological effects of TSST-1 in the rabbit 3 and 6 h and 7 days postinjection provides evidence that TSST-1 induces leukopenia, lymphopenia, and monocytopenia

Environmental factors affecting toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) synthesis [PDF]
The production of toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) was studied in batch and continuous culture of Staphylococcus aureus strain 1169 in a carbohydrate-free chemically defined medium (CDM). In continuous culture oxygen- and arginine-limitation were required for steady-state TSST-1 synthesis. Aeration suppressed toxin synthesis.

The effect of Staphylococcus aureus carriage in late pregnancy on antibody levels to staphylococcal toxins in cord blood and breast milk. [PDF]
We investigated the effect of carriage of Staphylococcus aureus in the later stages of pregnancy on levels of antibody specific to the S. aureus toxins, staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB), staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC) and toxic shock syndrome toxin-

Toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1) production by staphylococci isolated from goats and presence of specific antibodies to TSST-1 in serum and milk [PDF]
The ability of staphylococcal strains isolated from different anatomical sites in 133 healthy goats to produce toxic shock syndrome toxin 1 (TSST-1) and the presence of antibodies to this toxin in serum and milk were studied. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method was used to detect both the toxin and the presence of antibodies. Of a total of 342

Nonmenstrual toxic shock syndrome (nmTSS), linked to TSST-1-producing CC30 Staphylococcus aureus, is the leading manifestation of toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Due to case rarity and a lack of tractable animal models, TSS pathogenesis is poorly understood.
