The specificity of endogenous fatty acid nitration: only conjugated substrates support the in vivo formation of nitro-fatty acids

open access: yesRedox Biochemistry and Chemistry
Through multiple pathways, nitrogen dioxide (•NO2) is the main species involved in endogenous nitration reactions. Early studies in the field primarily explored tyrosine nitration, a dominant reaction in the field. It was later shown that lipids are also

In vivo protein tyrosine nitration in Arabidopsis thaliana [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2011
Nitration of tyrosine (Y) residues of proteins is a low abundant post-translational modification that modulates protein function or fate in animal systems. However, very little is known about the in vivo prevalence of this modification and its corresponding targets in plants.

Targeting KRAS for cancer therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
In recent years, therapeutics targeted against KRAS proto‐oncogene GTPase (KRAS)‐mutant cancers have seen significant progress. Herein we outline the biology and epidemiology of KRAS alterations at the lineage and allele levels, reviewing the clinical evidence for KRASG12C inhibition from the discovery of the recessive switch pocket to sotorasib ...

Reductive modification of genetically encoded 3-nitrotyrosine sites in alpha synuclein expressed in E.coli

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2019
Tyrosine nitration is a post-translational protein modification relevant to various pathophysiological processes. Chemical nitration procedures have been used to generate and study nitrated proteins, but these methods regularly lead to modifications at ...

Targeted keratin repair: A plant‐based approach to hair strength and surface restoration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
Application of Avena strigosa seed extract may reinforce keratin bonding, restoring hair fibre integrity by promoting intramolecular interactions at damaged sites of keratin proteins. Abstract Objective Chemical and thermal stress disrupts the intramolecular and intermolecular interactions that stabilize hair keratin, leading to structural degradation ...

The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) rhesus macaque embryonic brain histology datasets

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We introduce the MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) Collections of rhesus macaque embryonic brain tissue. Here, we illustrate histo‐ and immunohistology from our dynamically growing Collection 6, which currently contains >10,000 zoomable and downloadable images from n = 14 male and female embryos from early to late in gestation.

Nitric oxide, oxidants, and protein tyrosine nitration [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2004
The occurrence of protein tyrosine nitration under disease conditions is now firmly established and represents a shift from the signal transducing physiological actions of • NO to oxidative and potentially pathogenic pathways.

The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) rhesus macaque postnatal brain histology datasets: Enabling new discoveries through NHP tissue and digital data Repositories

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
The MacBrain Resource Center (MBRC) postnatal rhesus macaque brain histology datasets are organized into Collections that promote cost‐effective de novo research. This article provides examples from Collections 5, 6, and 7 and describes the histo‐ and immunohistochemical (IHC) processing of materials for Collection 6.

Tyrosine nitration modulates superfolder green fluorescent protein

open access: yesRedox Biochemistry and Chemistry
Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) is widely used as a reporter in cell biology and biochemistry. Its fluorescence properties arise from a chromophore buried inside a β-barrel structure, where subtle changes in the protein environment can alter fluorescence

The Keystone‐Pathogen Hypothesis Updated: The Role of Porphyromonas gingivalis in Periodontitis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Porphyromonas gingivalis orchestrates a coordinated manipulation of immune and inflammatory responses in periodontal tissues which leads to the generation of a dysbiotic, subgingival biofilm community, and progression of periodontitis. The type 9 secretion system, lipid A modification, and the formation of outer membrane vesicles are important ...
