Prokaryotic Expression of Active Mitochondrial Uncoupling Protein 1*

PROGRESS IN BIOCHEMISTRY AND BIOPHYSICS, 2010
Mitochondrial respiratory oxidation is coupled with ATP synthesis. This coupling process can be broken by uncoupling protein (UCP), an integral membrane protein at mitochondrial inner membrane. Here, active rat UCP1 (rUCP1) was expressed in E. coli. Expression of rUCP1 can lower host’s growth rate.

An immunohistochemical and in situ hybridisation study of the postnatal development of uncoupling protein-1 and uncoupling protein-1 mRNA in lamb perirenal adipose tissue

Cell and Tissue Research, 1998
In the lamb, the uncoupling protein-1 (UCP1) content of perirenal adipose tissue at birth is an important factor in heat production by non-shivering thermogenesis and the prevention of hypothermia. This study examines UCP1 gene expression and protein content in perirenal adipose tissue over the first 15 days of life by in situ hybridisation and ...

Uncoupling protein 1 contributes to fat-reducing effect of leptin

Obesity Research & Clinical Practice, 2007
Leptin is proposed to reduce body fat by increasing energy expenditure, in addition to decreasing food intake, through the activation of brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis. To confirm this, we investigated the effects of leptin on whole body energy expenditure, BAT functions and adiposity in wild-type (WT) mice, and compared with those in mice ...

Uncoupling protein 1: a short-circuit in the chemiosmotic process

Journal of Bioenergetics and Biomembranes, 2008
One of the significant naturally occurring short-circuits in the chemiosmotic process is manifest through the activity of uncoupling protein 1, most notably present in the inner membrane of mitochondria in brown adipose tissue. Much has been learnt about the mechanism of action of uncoupling protein 1 since its discovery in the 1970's, yet many areas ...

Activation of pattern recognition receptors in brown adipocytes induces inflammation and suppresses uncoupling protein 1 expression and mitochondrial respiration.

American Journal of Physiology - Cell Physiology, 2014
Pattern recognition receptors (PRR), Toll-like receptors (TLR), and nucleotide-oligomerization domain-containing proteins (NOD) play critical roles in mediating inflammation and modulating functions in white adipocytes in obesity.

Distinct regulation of brain mitochondrial carrier protein-1 and uncoupling protein-2 genes in the rat brain during cold exposure and aging.

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications - BBRC, 2000
Mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (UCPs) have been postulated to be regulators of thermogenesis, energy balance, and oxidative stress. Brain mitochondrial carrier protein-1 (BMCP1) is a new member of the UCP family, but little is known about the gene ...

IGF-1 regulate the expression of uncoupling protein 2 via FOXO1

Growth Factors, 2019
Mitochondria uncoupling protein2 (UCP2) expressed ubiquitously is a key molecule of energy metabolism. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a hormone, a target molecule of growth hormone (GH) signal pathway, which is also known as the drug "mecasermin" for clinical usages. IGF-1 is seemed to be closely related to metabolic diseases, such as adult GH
