Unfolded Protein Responses With or Without Unfolded Proteins?
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is the site of secretory protein biogenesis. The ER quality control (QC) machinery, including chaperones, ensures the correct folding of secretory proteins.

Stress Responses from the Endoplasmic Reticulum in Cancer [PDF]
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a dynamic organelle that is essential for multiple cellular functions. During cellular stress conditions, including nutrient deprivation and dysregulation of protein synthesis, unfolded/misfolded proteins accumulate in ...

Raphin‐1 reduces the survival of PED‐DHGG cells and enhances their radiation sensitivity through both PeIF2α‐dependent and PeIF2α‐independent mechanisms. Raphin‐1 sustains elevated levels of PeIF2α, contributing to its PeIF2α‐dependent effects. Additionally, raphin‐1 interacts with CReP to mediate a separate radiosensitizing pathway that operates ...

A stress‐responsive folding promotor was developed by conjugating metal‐binding ligands and a redox‐active disulfide. The oxidative strength of the bifunctional disulfide was enhanced by metal coordination, inhibiting protein misfolding and up‐regulating the oxidative folding capacity under metal stress.

Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress in Intestinal Epithelial Cell Function and Inflammatory Bowel Disease
In eukaryotic cells, perturbation of protein folding homeostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) causes accumulation of unfolded and misfolded proteins in the ER lumen, which activates intracellular signaling pathways termed the unfolded protein ...

Treatment of MPTP‐incubated cells with NAD+‐boosters increase the UPRmt/mitophagy‐related mitochondria quality control (MQC). Disturbed plasma UPRmt‐mitophagy‐mediated MQC profiles in PD patient samples. NMN inhibits motor deficit and forestalls neuropathology phenotypes of PD mice, which is required the atf4‐medicated UPRmt pathway.

Zhangfei/CREB-ZF - a potential regulator of the unfolded protein response. [PDF]
Cells respond to perturbations in the microenvironment of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and to the overloading of its capacity to process secretory and membrane-associate proteins, by activating the Unfolded Protein Response (UPR).
