Enzymic determination of uracil nucleotides in tissues

Analytical Biochemistry, 1970
Abstract An enzymic assay for the sequential determination of UDP-glucose, UDP-galactose, UTP, UDP, and 5′-UMP in tissues is described. Two moles of NAD are reduced per mole of uracil nucleotide by use of UDPG dehydrogenase as indicator enzyme. The procedure is highly specific for the measurement of uridine 5′-phosphates.

Potential signalling roles for UTP and UDP: sources, regulation and release of uracil nucleotides

Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, 1997
Increasing evidence for receptors for uracil nucleotides has focused interest on specific signalling mechanisms involving UTP and UDP. At least three metabotropic P2 receptors are stimulated by uracil nucleotides with equal or greater potency than by adenine nucleotides, and there might be ionotropic receptors as well.

Glomerular uracil nucleotide synthesis

American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology, 1988
The biosynthesis of basement membrane material requires the sugar derivatives of uridine 5'-triphosphate (UTP) for protein glycosylation. Uridine and orotate utilization for the biosynthesis of uracil ribonucleotides was studied in isolated rat glomeruli incubated in vitro. At a 1 microM concentration total orotate utilization was 9.6 +/- 1.8 pmol.min-

Conversion of uracil nucleotides into isotopically labelled 5-substituted uracil nucleotides: a convenient route to thymine nucleotides

Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1984
Unprotected uracil nucleotides and nucleosides are converted into 5-formyluracil derivatives using a palladium(II) coupling reaction followed by oxidation of the intermediate styryl derivative.

Acidity of a Nucleotide Base:  Uracil

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2004
Experiment and calculations are used to show that the gas-phase acidity of uracil is comparable to that of HCl. The gas-phase acidity of uracil (denoted here by U) was bracketed by proton-transfer measurements involving Uand various reference acids (denoted here by A) of known gas-phase acidity.

Receptors responsive to extracellular uracil nucleotides

Drug Development Research, 1998
The cloning of P2Y 4 and P2Y 3 (chicken) / P2Y 6 (rat, human) receptors has been the ultimate proof that receptors for pyrimidine nucleotides exist. However, on the basis of their structure these receptors do not constitute a family of their own but belong to the P2Y family, which thus encompasses selective purinoceptors (P2Y 1 , P2Y 11 ), nucleotide

P2 Receptors Activated by Uracil Nucleotides - An Update

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2006
Pyrimidine nucleotides, including UTP, UDP and UDP-glucose, are important signaling molecules which activate G protein-coupled membrane receptors (GPCRs) of the P2Y family. Four distinct pyrimidine nucleotide-sensitive P2Y receptor subtypes have been cloned, P2Y2, P2Y4, P2Y6 and P2Y14. P2Y2 and P2Y4 receptors are activated by UTP (the P2Y2, and the rat

Uracil nucleotides: From metabolic intermediates to neuroprotection and neuroinflammation

Biochemical Pharmacology, 2008
Uracil nucleotides (i.e., UTP and UDP) have been known for years as fundamental intermediates in the de novo synthesis of the other pyrimidine nucleotides, which altogether represent key building blocks for nucleic acid synthesis. In addition, their sugar conjugates (i.e., UDP-glucose and UDP-galactose) enter in several biochemical routes, for example ...

Effects of galactose on human leukocyte uracil nucleotides

International Journal of Biochemistry, 1975
Abstract 1. 1. Uracil nucleotide contents of human leukocytes were determined by enzymatic analysis. The labelling pattern of uracil nucleotides was studied after incubation of the cells in the presence of [ 14 C]uridine followed by separation of the labelled nucleotides by paper chromatography. 2. 2. A depression of UTP, UDP, and UDP-glucose
