Pharmacological and Therapeutic Potential of Garlic (Allium sativum): Integrating Phytochemistry, Molecular Mechanisms, and Clinical and Preclinical Evidence

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 11, November 2026.
Garlic bioactive compounds, including organosulfur compounds (allicin, DADS, DATS, and SAC), phenolic compounds, and quercetin, regulate the Nrf2/HO‐1, NF‐κB, PI3K/Akt, and AMPK/eNOS signaling pathways. These actions enhance antioxidant defenses, suppress inflammation, improve metabolic and cardiovascular function, and contribute to reduced blood ...

Interactive Effects of Dietary Crude Protein and Methionine Levels on Growth Performance, Carcass Quality and Blood Biochemistry of Japanese Quail During Starter and Grower Phases

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 6, November 2026.
Dietary crude protein and methionine interact significantly in Japanese quail. Optimal methionine ranges from 0.50%–0.70% depending on protein level and phase. Best grower performance occurs at 25% CP with 1.30% Met, yielding 161.84 g male weight gain. Females show superior breast yield (30.90%).

Accelerating Phosphate Transport Across Membranes via Synergistic Chemical‐Electrochemical Carriers

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 43, 19 October 2026.
A new membrane design principle based on synergistic chemical and electrochemical carriers is proposed to construct an electro‐driven carrier‐conducting membrane for high‐throughput phosphate transport. Monodispersed ferrihydrite nanoparticles embedded within the membrane act as built‐in phosphate carriers, enabling accelerated phosphate migration via ...

Reprogramming Native Cryptic Plasmids Enables Antibiotic‐Selection‐Free Urate Degradation by Escherichia coli Nissle 1917

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 11, November 2026.
Reprogramming native cryptic plasmids of Escherichia coli Nissle 1917 enabled antibiotic‐selection‐free and oxygen‐adaptive urate degradation. The engineered strain reduced uric acid levels and alleviated hyperuricemia‐associated renal and inflammatory abnormalities in mice, supporting endogenous plasmid engineering as a strategy for live ...

Systematic Comparison of High‐Fat Diet– and Streptozotocin‐Induced Prediabetic Obese C57BL/6J Mouse Models: A Sex‐Based Protocol Optimization Study

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 11, Page 9897-9918, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Animal models of prediabetes (Pre‐DM) are essential for studying metabolic disease and testing therapies, yet high‐fat diet (HFD) and HFD‐plus‐streptozotocin (STZ) protocols vary in feeding duration, STZ dose, and diagnostic criteria and rarely account for sex.

Oleanolic Acid‐Enriched Olive Oil Attenuates Kidney Function Decline in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes: Results From the OLTRAD Randomised Controlled Trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 11, Page 10195-10209, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), driven in part by oxidative stress and the accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Oleanolic acid (OA), a natural triterpene present in olive‐derived matrices, may modulate AGE metabolism.
