Glucosylation of (±)-Menthol by Uridine-Diphosphate-Sugar Dependent Glucosyltransferases from Plants [PDF]

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Menthol is a cyclic monoterpene alcohol of the essential oils of plants of the genus Mentha, which is in demand by various industries due to its diverse sensorial and physiological properties. However, its poor water solubility and its toxic effect limit possible applications.

Nucleoside Diphosphate-sugar 4-Epimerases I. Uridine Diphosphate Glucose 4-Epimerase of Wheat Germ [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1969
Uridine diphosphate (UDP)-glucose 4-epimerase (EC 5.1.3.2) has been purified over 1000-fold from extracts of wheat germ by MnCl(2) treatment, (NH(4))(2)SO(4) fractionation, Sephadex column chromatography, and adsorption onto and elution from calcium phosphate gel. The enzyme has a pH optimum of 9.0.

Immobilization of the Highly Active UDP-Glucose Pyrophosphorylase From Thermocrispum agreste Provides a Highly Efficient Biocatalyst for the Production of UDP-Glucose

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Biocatalysis that produces economically interesting compounds can be carried out by using free enzymes or microbial cells. However, often the cell metabolism does not allow the overproduction or secretion of activated sugars and thus downstream ...

A theoretical estimate for nucleotide sugar demand towards Chinese Hamster Ovary cellular glycosylation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Glycosylation greatly influences the safety and efficacy of many of the highest-selling recombinant therapeutic proteins (rTPs). In order to define optimal cell culture feeding strategies that control rTP glycosylation, it is necessary to know how ...

Transcriptome profiling in Salix matsudana during refilling xylem vessels after embolism

open access: yesBiologia Plantarum, 2019
The objective of this study is to understand the role of bark water uptake in refilling of xylem vessels after embolism in Salix matsudana. Further, we determined expression of genes closely related to xylem embolism repair.

Isolation of Endogenous Activator of Glucuronide Formation in Liver [PDF]

open access: yes, 1962
A purified compound of the activator of glucuronide formation was isolated from a boiled extract of rat liver by charcoal adsorption, ethanol fractionation of barium salts, and finally paper and Dowex-l column chromatographies.

Comparative genomic and biochemical analyses identify a collagen galactosylhydroxylysyl glucosyltransferase from Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Humans and Acanthamoeba polyphaga mimivirus share numerous homologous genes, including collagens and collagen-modifying enzymes. To explore this homology, we performed a genome-wide comparison between human and mimivirus using DELTA-BLAST (Domain ...

Fueling the fire: emerging role of the hexosamine biosynthetic pathway in cancer

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2019
Altered metabolism and deregulated cellular energetics are now considered a hallmark of all cancers. Glucose, glutamine, fatty acids, and amino acids are the primary drivers of tumor growth and act as substrates for the hexosamine biosynthetic pathway ...
