Association of Urokinase-type Plasminogen Activator with Asthma and Atopy

American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2007
Abstract Rationale Urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) interacts with its receptor on inflammatory and migrating cells to regulate extracellular matrix degradation, cell adhesion, and inflammatory cell activation.

The murine urokinase-type plasminogen activator gene

Biochemistry, 1987
The murine urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) gene has been isolated from a BALB/c liver DNA cosmid library and its nucleotide sequence established. The gene is organized into 11 exons comprising 34.7% of the 6710 base pair (bp) region spanning the interval between the presumed transcription initiation and polyadenylation sites.

Expression of urokinase‐type plasminogen activator, urokinase‐type plasminogen activator receptor, and plasminogen activator inhibitor‐1 and ‐2 in hepatocellular carcinoma

Pathology International, 2000
It has become more and more clear in recent decades that the plasminogen activation system, which includes urokinase‐type plasminogen activator (uPA), urokinase‐type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR), plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI)‐1 and PAI‐2, plays a very important role in the aggressiveness of cancer. Using immunohistochemistry and enzyme‐

Urokinase-type plasminogen activator

The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology, 2007
Urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) is a serine protease involved in tissue remodeling and cell migration. At the gene level, the interplay between a complex enhancer, required for induced and basal transcription, and the minimal promoter finely tunes uPA expression.

Modulation of lipoxidase activity by urokinase-type plasminogen activator

Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids, 1994
Malignant cells show increased urokinase (UK) activity and decreased peroxidation of essential fatty acids (EFA). In order to explore this phenomenon the effect of UK on the lipoxidase activity was spectrophotometrically investigated. Decreased lipoxidase activity was obtained with increased UK concentrations (r = -1.000, p < 0.0001).

Mutations affecting the activity of urokinase-type plasminogen activator

"Protein Engineering, Design and Selection", 1991
Mutagenesis throughout the single-chain urokinase-type plasminogen activator (scu-PA) cDNA molecule, followed by expression of the mutant genes and secretion of the resulting mutant proteins from yeast, has been used to determine the amino acid residues important for activity of scu-PA molecules.

Inhibitors of the Proteolytic Activity of Urokinase Type Plasminogen Activator

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2003
Urokinase type plasminogen activator (uPA) activates plasminogen to plasmin and is often associated with diseases where tissue remodeling is essential (e.g. cancer, macular degeneration, atherosclerosis). We discuss some of the mechanisms of uPA action in diseases, and evidence that some of the early uPA inhibitors can modulate the progression of these
