Cytotoxic Triterpenes and Sterol from the Fruit of Rabbiteye Blueberry (Vaccinium ashei)

open access: yesFood Science and Technology Research, 2004
Seven triterpenes, α-amyrin (1), uvaol (2), ursolic acid (3), β-amyrin (4), erythrodiol (5), lupeol (6) and betulin (7), two sterols, β-sitosterol (8) and β-sitosterol 3-O-β-glucopyranoside (9), and one flavonoid, syringetin 3-O-α-rhamnopyranoside (10) were isolated from the methanol extract of the fruit of rabbiteye blueberry (Vaccinium ashei).

Nutritional Composition and in vitro Antioxidant Activities of Blueberry (Vaccinium ashei) Leaf

open access: yesKorean Journal of Food Preservation, 2012
The nutritional composition and in vitro anti-oxidant activities of blueberry (Vaccinium ashei) leaf extract were investigated to examine their physiological characteristics. Calcium was the most abundant mineral. The principal free sugars were glucose, sucrose, maltose, and fructose.

In vitro release properties of encapsulated blueberry (Vaccinium ashei) extracts

Food Chemistry, 2015
We aimed to determine the effect of encapsulation on the release properties of blueberry extracts during simulated gastrointestinal digestion. An ethanolic pomace extract was microencapsulated with whey protein isolate via spray drying. The in vitro release of monomeric anthocyanins, phenolics and ferric reducing antioxidant activity of the ...

Cell Number and Cell Size in Parthenocarpicvs. Pollinated Blueberry (Vaccinium ashei) Fruits [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 1997
Abstract Gibberellic acid (GA 3 ) promotes parthenocarpic fruit development and is used commercially to increase fruit set in many crops. However, fruit size is usually smaller than that of pollinated fruit. The purpose of this work was to determine the anatomical basis for differences in fruit size between pollinated and GA 3 -induced parthenocarpic

Meiotic abnormalities of Vaccinium ashei × Vaccinium darrowi hybrids

Canadian Journal of Genetics and Cytology, 1984
Meiosis was studied in pollen mother cells of three Vaccinium ashei (2n = 6x = 72) × Vaccinium darrowi (2n = 2x = 24) hybrids. Numerous irregularities were found, including 60 somatic chromosomes instead of the expected 48, two synezetic knots, two nucleolar organizing regions, lagging chromosomes at anaphase I and II, nonassociating chromosomes ...

Application potential of Vaccinium ashei R. for cadmium migration retention in the mining area soil

Chemosphere, 2023
Despite numerous reports on phytoremediation of heavy metals contaminated soil, there are few reports on plant retention of heavy metals in the mining area slope. This study was the first of its kind to explore the cadmium (Cd) retention capacity of the blueberry (Vaccinium ashei Reade).

BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF BLUEBERRY (VACCINIUM ASHEI READE)

Acta Horticulturae, 2013
The correlation of fruits and vegetables consumption and good health is well established; however, there are many fruits that need to be studied considering the environmental conditions where they grow. Blueberry is one of the most important small fruit studied in the world; however, little is known about the blueberry cultivated in Brazil. There is an
