Chemical Investigation of Vaccinium myrtillus L
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1954The huckleberry shrub has been subjected to chemical investigation, and several constituents were isolated among which oleanolic and ursolic acids, β-amyrin, myrtillol, and nonacosane were identified. Several fat acids, plant acids, tannins, and sugars were also identified. Hydroquinone, but not arbutin, could be detected.

The Taxonomy of Vaccinium Section Myrtillus (Ericaceae)
Brittonia, 1999Phenetic analyses of 218 OTUs belonging toVaccinium sectionMyrtillus and scored for 13 characters generated five robust clusters.Vaccinium parvifolium is the most distinct cluster, followed by the “myrtillus-scoparium” complex, thenV. membranaceum, V. caespitosum, and the “ovalifolium-deliciosum” complex.

TRANSPIRATION RESISTANCE IN VACCINIUM MYRTILLUS
American Journal of Botany, 1970Measurements of transpiration resistance of Vaccinium myrtillus at various wind speeds indicate that this quantity is relatively insensitive to variations in wind speed in the range normally experienced under field conditions. The resistance is relatively low when compared with values reported in the literature for other plants.

Effects of Vaccinium Myrtillus anthocyanosides on arterial vasomotion.
Arzneimittel-Forschung, 1991The effects of Vaccinium Myrtillus anthocyanosides (Myrtocyan, VMA; CAS 84082-34-8) on arteriolar vasomotion were assessed in cheek pouch microcirculation of anesthetized hamsters and in skeletal muscle microvasculature of unanesthetized hamster skin fold window preparation.

Phenolics in Slovenian Bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) and Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum L.)
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2011Phenolics from bilberries ( Vaccinium myrtillus L.) sampled from seven different locations and highbush blueberries ( Vaccinium corymbosum L.) from one location in Slovenia were analyzed. In samples of both species 15 anthocyanins were identified by LC-MS/MS. Their contents were expressed as cyanidin 3-glucoside equivalents (C3GE); bilberries contained

Vaccinium myrtillus anthocyanosides pharmacokinetics in rats.
Arzneimittel-Forschung, 1991The pharmacokinetics of Vaccinium myrtillus anthocyanosides (VMA) have been investigated in male rats. After intravenous administration anthocyanosides undergo a rapid body distribution and their disappearance from the blood is suitably fitted by a three-compartment pharmacokinetic model. The elimination occurs mostly through urine and bile.
