Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Hierarchical control of parallel voltage source inverters in AC microgrids

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2018
Here, a distributed hierarchical control strategy is proposed for the parallel operating of voltage source inverters (VSIs) in AC microgrids (MGs). For the output voltage control of a VSI, conventional double-loop proportional-integral (PI) control ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Adaptive sliding mode based active disturbance rejection control method for a direct-driven wind power conversion system

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Considering the internal and external disturbances of the direct-driven wind energy conversion systems, i.e. multi-variable coupling, non-linear characteristic and modelling error, and the environmental disturbances, an adaptive sliding mode observer ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Switching attacks on smart grid using non-linear sliding surface

open access: yesIET Cyber-Physical Systems, 2019
A cyber-intruder uses the local knowledge of grid in order to develop and apply a coordinated switching sequence to attack and destabilise an otherwise healthy smart grid system.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A Composite Variable Structure PI Controller for Sensorless Speed Control Systems of IPMSM

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
In the speed control system of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) without a speed sensor, PI controllers using only a fixed set of parameters cannot achieve accurate tracking of the estimated speed in a wide speed domain and also ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
