Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Integral sliding mode control for non-linear systems with mismatched uncertainty based on quadratic sliding mode

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2015
In this study, uncertainty and disturbance compensations are addressed for non-linear systems by an integral sliding mode (ISM) design. It is divided into two steps for implementation of the ISM control.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Continuous finite-time TSM control for electronic throttle system

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
This article examines the position tracking difficulties of the electronic throttle (ET) system and presents a continuous finite-time terminal sliding mode (TSM) control method.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Modeling dynamic systems of variable structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Reliable software tools for mathematical modeling have been developed for simulation models but for constrained optimization models progress has been slower. The following approach examines the possibility of working with large-scale mathematical models in a compact form permitting the direct analysis of input-output relations where information is ...

Sliding mode-based velocity and torque controllers for permanent magnet synchronous motor drives system

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
To minimise the torque ripple for vector control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) of railway traction system, this study proposes a new velocity, torque and current three-loop control system, and designs a velocity and torque ...

Duality Theory for Variable Costs in Joint Production [PDF]

open access: yes
Duality methods for incomplete systems of consumer demand equations are adapted to the dual structure of variable cost functions in joint production. This allows the identification of necessary and sufficient restrictions on technology and cost so that ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Machine learning–based robust trajectory tracking control for FSGR

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
Here, a robust adaptive trajectory tracking algorithm is proposed for free-form surface grinding robot (FSGR) in metal surface production line. Machine-learning method is used for robot dynamic approximation which is hard to obtain directly. Adaptive law
