Very important pharmacogene summary for VDR [PDF]
The vitamin D receptor (VDR) binds the active form of vitamin D (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3). It belongs to the family of trans-acting transcriptional regulatory factors and shows sequence similarity to the steroid and thyroid hormone receptors. The gene was cloned by Baker and colleagues in 1988 and maps to chromosome 12q13.11 [1].

Difference and similarity of DNA sequence recognized by VDR homodimer and VDR/RXR heterodimer
Nuclear receptors for the thyroid hormone and vitamin A and D cooperate with the retinoid X receptor (RXR) in activating the transcription. Although the hormone response elements for these receptors have been proposed in which spacing of the direct repeated motifs determine the specificity (so called 3-4-5 rule), vitamin D response elements (VDREs) in ...

Association of vitamin D receptor gene fok1 polymorphism with bone health in Pakistani population
Background: Osteoporosis is the bone disease characterized by demineralization of the bone. One of the most important genetic factors responsible for the osteoporosis is the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism.

Quercetin Directly Interacts with Vitamin D Receptor (VDR): Structural Implication of VDR Activation by Quercetin [PDF]
The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a member of the nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily. The VDR binds to active vitamin D3 metabolites, which stimulates downstream transduction signaling involved in various physiological activities such as calcium homeostasis, bone mineralization, and cell differentiation.

Stress-induced c-Jun-dependent Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) Activation Dissects the Non-classical VDR Pathway from the Classical VDR Activity [PDF]
Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor that mediates vitamin D(3)-induced gene expression. Our previous work has established that stress MAPK signaling stimulates VDR expression (Qi, X., Pramank, R., Wang, J., Schultz, R. M., Maitra, R. K., Han, J., DeLuca, H. F., and Chen, G. (2002) J. Biol. Chem. 277, 25884-25892) and VDR

Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) mRNA and VDR Protein Levels in Relation to Vitamin D Status, Insulin Secretory Capacity, and VDR Genotype in Bangladeshi Asians [PDF]
Associations have been reported between vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms, type 1 diabetes, insulin secretion, and the insulin resistance syndrome. As VDR polymorphisms have no known functional significance, these findings may implicate a variant of the VDR gene or a locus in linkage disequilibrium with the VDR.
