Evaluation of blood and bone marrow in selected canine vector-borne diseases

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background Bone marrow (BM) is a major hematopoietic organ that can harbour a variety of vector-borne pathogens; however, knowledge of BM pathological changes in dogs infected with vector-borne pathogens is limited. Thus, the aim of the present study was

Targeting KDM3B Elicits Anti‐tumor Immunity by Alleviating SHP1–mediated STING Suppression in Triple–Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
P3FI–90 treatment targets KDM3B, reshapes the epigenetic landscape, and suppresses SHP1 expression, thereby activating STING–TBK1–IRF3–type I IFN signaling pathway. Consequently, CD8+ T cells are recruited to the tumor site and activated to produce IFN–γ and GZMB, leading to the killing of TNBC cells.

Resistant Peanut Genotype Reprograms Rhizosphere Metabolism to Enhance Bacterial Wilt Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The resistant peanut genotype selectively recruits beneficial bacteria, which coincides with the activation of salicylic acid (SA)‐dependent systemic acquired resistance (SAR) against Ralstonia solanacearum. Keystone rhizosphere metabolites are positively correlated with both beneficial microbiome assembly and SAR gene expression.

Prevalence of Borrelia miyamotoi and Neoehrlichia mikurensis in a cohort of tick-exposed individuals and population controls in Denmark 2002–2021

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
Borrelia miyamotoi and Neoehrlichia mikurensis are recently discovered tick-borne pathogens. The aim of this study was to ascertain the extent of transmission among high-risk groups and healthy controls. The study design is retrospective cohort study ...

PDIA6–SCD1 Axis Rewires Lipid Metabolism to Drive Gastric Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Protein disulfide isomerase A6 (PDIA6) is identified as an oncogenic driver in gastric cancer. PDIA6 directly binds and stabilizes SCD1 by limiting its ubiquitin–proteasome‐mediated degradation, thereby sustaining monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA)‐enriched lipid homeostasis and lipid metabolic reprogramming.

Cholesterol‐Mediated Metabolic‐mechanotransductive Crosstalk Orchestrates Castration Resistance in Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Full androgen deprivation (FAD) induces paracrine cholesterol in prostate cancer that drives the polarization of cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and subsequent elevated matrix stiffness. Matrix stiffness in turn potentiates tumor cell survival under FAD pressure via dual mechanotransductive activation of the IRE1α‐XBP1s stress‐response axis ...

RNF138‐Mediated Ubiquitination and Degradation of NS5 Restricts Tick‐Borne Encephalitis Virus Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Host‐specific compatibility between RNF138‐like proteins and flavivirus NS5 determines NS5 stability. Mammalian RNF138 but not arthropod homologs recognizes and induces conserved NS5/RdRp K48‐linked ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation, thereby restricting viral replication. Ectopic RNF138 in mice attenuates TBEV‐induced pathogenesis. (Created in

Cockroaches and Food-borne Pathogens

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Insights, 2020
Food-borne disease is a widespread and escalating public health problem globally. About a quarter of the microorganisms isolated from cockroaches are food-borne pathogens including Escherichia coli O157:H7, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus ...

Skin models for studying vector-borne kinetoplastid infections

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Microbiology
Kinetoplastid infections, caused by Leishmania and Trypanosoma species, pose significant global health challenges, disproportionally affecting vulnerable populations in tropical regions. Despite the skin's pivotal role as both an entry point and a reservoir for these parasites, the mechanistic understanding of host-parasite interactions at this ...

Acute Vector-Borne Viral Infection: Zika and MinION Surveillance

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2019
ABSTRACTThe MinION sequencer was launched by the Oxford Nanopore Technologies start-up as a disruptive technology for genome sequencing based on single-molecule synthesis. Its characteristics as a portable device, low cost, and simple library preparation have made it a good candidate for field researchers.
