Event-triggered control for vehicle platooning [PDF]

open access: yes2015 American Control Conference (ACC), 2015
This paper presents a method to control vehicular platoons in an event-triggered fashion. Therefore, every vehicle broadcasts its position and velocity information only at discrete event times. These events are determined by a trigger rule only depending on the agents state and on time. Two control architectures are considered.

Formation strategies of mixed flow with connected and automated multi-type vehicles based on an improved Markov chain model

open access: yesShenzhen Daxue xuebao. Ligong ban
To enhance the roadway capacity of mixed traffic flow with connected and automated (CA) trucks and cars as well as manually driven trucks and cars, we propose strategies for individual and cooperative vehicle formations for CA vehicles based on ...

Collaborative platooning and routing for mixed fleets of electric automated vehicles and conventional trucks

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract The application of automated ground vehicles (AGVs) is well‐established in closed environments such as port terminals, while their operation in open areas remains challenging. In this work, we set out to overcome this limitation by introducing platooning as a transfer mode in heterogeneous vehicle networks.

Scenario‐Based Platoon Lane Network Design

open access: yesNetworks, Volume 87, Issue 4, Page 443-459, June 2026.
ABSTRACT A truck platoon is a set of trucks that drive behind one another at short headways to save fuel, reduce emissions, and improve traffic throughput. Despite the potential benefits of platooning, road operators have raised concerns about the impact of platoons on surrounding traffic.

Quantifying the Economic Case for Electric Semi-Trucks

open access: yes, 2018
There has been considerable interest in the electrification of freight transport, particularly heavy-duty trucks to downscale the greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions from the transportation sector. However, the economic competitiveness of electric semi-trucks

Vehicle Swarm Platooning as Differential Game

open access: yes2021 20th International Conference on Advanced Robotics (ICAR), 2021
Platooning is the desired group driving behavior of connected and autonomous vehicles on roads. As a platoon, autonomous vehicles by synchronizing their speed, maintain shorter headway and inter-vehicle distance. Platooning is more challenging when the size of the platoon becomes large as a swarm of vehicles platooning behavior simultaneously shall be ...

Why Autonomous Vehicles Are Not Ready Yet: A Multi‐Disciplinary Review of Problems, Attempted Solutions, and Future Directions

open access: yesJournal of Field Robotics, Volume 43, Issue 3, Page 2254-2341, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Personal autonomous vehicles can sense their surrounding environment, plan their route, and drive with little or no involvement of human drivers. Despite the latest technological advancements and the hopeful announcements made by leading entrepreneurs, to date no personal vehicle is approved for road circulation in a “fully” or “semi ...

An Investigation of Aerodynamic Effects of Body Morphing for Passenger Cars in Close-Proximity

open access: yesFluids, 2021
The potential energy-saving benefit for vehicles when travelling in a ‘platoon’ formation results from the reduction in total aerodynamic drag which may result from the interaction of bluff bodies in close-proximity.
