An Olfactory Piriform Cortex‐Lateral Hypothalamus Neural Circuit Contributes to Linalool‐Induced Analgesia

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
Linalool odor exposure activates a glutamatergic projection from the piriform cortex to the lateral hypothalamus (PiriGlu‐LH), mediating descending inhibitory pain pathways. This demonstrates a novel neural mechanism for olfactory‐induced pain modulation and suggests potential therapeutic implications for pain management.

Exploring the Quality of Historic DNA From Pinned Beetles

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Dry‐preserved museum specimens offer valuable but degraded DNA for genomic studies, making extraction method choice crucial. We found that an oligo‐focused silica‐column protocol yielded higher‐quality short DNA fragments than standard silica or precipitation methods, and that specimen age mainly reduced fragment length and locus recovery, while DNA ...

What do We Mean by Environmental Heterogeneity? Toward A Mechanistically Explicit and Scale‐Dependent Framework

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
We synthesized 360 studies on environmental heterogeneity (EH) across taxa, regions, and disciplines. Only 10% of studies explicitly defined EH, and definitions were predominantly descriptive. We identify four operational interpretations of EH and propose a Research Roadmap linking EH metrics to five mechanistic hypotheses with testable predictions ...

Arsenic Uptake From Artisanal Gold Mining Wastewater Using Magnetized and Functionalized 2‐Mercaptobenzothiazole Nanosilica: Characterization, Taguchi Optimization, Statistical Analysis and Adsorbent Reusability

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
A local adsorbent, synthesized via magnetization and functionalization of nanosilica from rice husk, was applied to eliminate As5+ from gold mining wastewater sample. Adsorbent was characterized using BET, FTIR, SEM and XRD and was proved to be effective and suitable for As5+ removal from gold mining wastewater.

Metabolite Variations in Lepidium sativum Seeds Among Different Germplasms: Unraveling the Link Between Environment and Chemical Compounds

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Comparative phytochemical analysis of Lepidium sativum seed populations revealed environmentally driven variation in essential oil composition, while fatty acid profiles remained largely stable across populations. Benzyl nitrile was the dominant essential oil constituent, α‐linolenic acid was the major fatty acid, and all populations exhibited weak ...
