Metatranscriptome-based strategy reveals the existence of novel mycoviruses in the plant pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) is a devastating plant pathogen that caused a great financial loss in the banana’s source area. Metatranscriptomic analysis was used to determine the diversity of mycoviruses in 246 isolates of F. oxysporum f.

The transmission dynamics of groups A and B human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) in England & Wales and Finland: seasonality and cross-protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) transmission dynamics are inherently cyclical, and the observed genetic diversity (between groups A and B) also appears to have a repeating pattern.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Geographical and chronological origin and evolution of Hepatitis C Virus.

open access: yes, 2011
Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection is a major health problem that leads to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. World over, more than 270-300 million people are estimated to be infected with the virus.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Sequence diversity of hepatitis D virus in Mongolia

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2023
IntroductionThe Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) is a defective, single-stranded RNA virusoid encoding for a single protein, the Hepatitis Delta Antigen (HDAg), which requires the hepatitis B virus (HBV) envelope protein (HBsAg) for its transmission. Currently, hepatitis D is the most aggressive form of viral hepatitis and treatment options are limited ...

Global distributions and strain diversity of avian infectious bronchitis virus: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The poultry industry faces challenge amidst global food security crisis. Infectious bronchitis is one of the most important viral infections that cause huge economic loss to the poultry industry worldwide. The causative agent, infectious bronchitis virus

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Metagenomic and whole-genome analysis reveals new lineages of gokushoviruses and biogeographic separation in the sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
Much remains to be learned about single-stranded (ss) DNA viruses in natural systems, and the evolutionary relationships among them. One of the eight recognized families of ssDNA viruses is the Microviridae, a group of viruses infecting bacteria. In this

Investigation of denugue virus envelope gene quasispecies variation in patient samples : implications for virus virulence and disease pathognesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Due to the error-prone nature of RNA virus replication, each dengue virus (DV) exists as a quasispecies within the host. To investigate the hypothesis that DV quasispecies populations affect disease severity, serum samples were obtained from dengue ...
