Visual SLAM for Autonomous Navigation of MAVs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This thesis focuses on developing onboard visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) systems to enable autonomous navigation of micro aerial vehicles (MAVs), which is still a challenging topic considering the limited payload and computational ...

An Improved SLAM Algorithm for Substation Inspection Robots Based on 3D Lidar and Visual Information Fusion

open access: yesEnergies
Current substation inspection robots mainly use Lidar as a sensor for localization and map building. However, laser SLAM has the problem of localization error in scenes with similar and missing environmental structural features, and environmental maps ...

NePO: Neural Point Octrees for Large‐Scale Novel View Synthesis

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
We introduce Neural Point Octrees (NePOs), a scalable radiance field representation that organises point clouds hierarchically for efficient optimisation and rendering of large scale scenes. NePOs enable level of detail selection, joint refinement of appearance and camera poses, and real‐time rendering of hundreds of millions of points.

LeafFit: Plant Assets Creation from 3D Gaussian Splatting

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We propose LeafFit, a pipeline that converts 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) of individual plants into editable, instanced mesh assets. While 3DGS faithfully captures complex foliage, its high memory footprint and lack of mesh topology make it incompatible with traditional game production workflows. We address this by leveraging the repetition of

Step2Motion: Locomotion Reconstruction from Pressure Sensing Insoles

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Human motion is fundamentally driven by continuous physical interaction with the environment. Whether walking, running, or simply standing, the forces exchanged between our feet and the ground provide crucial insights for understanding and reconstructing human movement. Recent advances in wearable insole devices offer a compelling solution for

Chromium and Cobalt in Used Leather Items: A Danish Market Survey

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
Used leather items from the Danish second‐hand market frequently release chromium(VI) and, in some cases, cobalt. Some items exceed current EU limits, highlighting a persistent but underrecognised source of exposure in the circular economy that may contribute to ongoing contact allergy despite existing regulations.

Georeferenced Visual SLAM

open access: yes, 2023
This thesis presents a complementary localization solution for taxis and ride-hailing operators in situations where GNSS is unavailable or unreliable. The proposed method leverages monocular visual SLAM techniques, specifically the ORB-SLAM 3 library, to create a map of the environment and localize within it.
