Vitamin B2 content determination in liver paste by using acid and acid-enzyme hydrolysis [PDF]
Background/Aim. Vitamin B2 is available in foodstuff in the form of coenzyme and in free form. For its content determination a few procedures should be performed (deliberation from a complex, extraction of free and deliberated form) and detection ...

Abstract Objectives We aimed to study the effects of fermented lingonberry juice (FLJ) as a mouthwash on the levels of active matrix metalloproteinase‐8 (aMMP‐8) in peri‐implant sulcular fluid (PISF), bleeding on probing (BOP), and visible plaque index (VPI). We hypothesized that FLJ rinsing could reduce inflammation (aMMP‐8 and BOP) and microbial load

The thioredoxin system: Balancing redox responses in immune cells and tumors
The thioredoxin (TRX) system is a critical contributor to cellular redox homeostasis in all living cells. Here, we review the key roles of TRX for activation, proliferation, and responses in T cells, B cells, and myeloid cells. Further, we conceptualize how this knowledge may be therapeutically exploited for cancer treatment.

Substrate and pH‐dependent homogeneous electrocatalysis using riboflavin for oxygen reduction
The electrocatalytic oxygen reduction using natural riboflavin in homogeneous solutions at various different pH levels showed a substantial increase in H2O2 production. Three different carbon‐based electrode materials were used. Abstract Homogeneous, aqueous solutions of the natural compound riboflavin were investigated for their electrocatalytic ...

Abstract Gene expression profiling in Caenorhabditis elegans has been demonstrated to be a potential bioanalytical tool to detect the toxic potency of environmental contaminants. The RNA transcripts of genes responding to toxic exposure can be used as biomarkers for detecting these toxins. For routine application in environmental quality monitoring, an

Hosts, microbiomes, and the evolution of critical windows
Abstract The absence of microbial exposure early in life leaves individuals vulnerable to immune overreaction later in life, manifesting as immunopathology, autoimmunity, or allergies. A key factor is thought to be a “critical window” during which the host's immune system can “learn” tolerance, and beyond which learning is no longer possible.

Prebiotic Vitamin B$_3$ Synthesis in Carbonaceous Planetesimals [PDF]
Aqueous chemistry within carbonaceous planetesimals is promising for synthesizing prebiotic organic matter essential to all life. Meteorites derived from these planetesimals delivered these life building blocks to the early Earth, potentially facilitating the origins of life.
