Copper‐Driven Epithelial Barrier Disruption: A Novel Mechanism of COPD Acute Exacerbations Mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a copper‐driven mechanism of COPD acute exacerbations mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A axis. TNF‐α suppresses the copper transporter ATP7A via competitive NF‐κB/CREB1/CBP signaling, resulting in intracellular copper accumulation, mitochondrial oxidative stress, and epithelial barrier disruption.

Mitochondria and Neuromast Tagging With Fluorescent Gallium‐Triapine Analogues: In Cellulo MP FLIM and Zebrafish Live Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorescent BODIPY‐conjugated thiosemicarbazone ligands and their Ga(III), In(III), and Fe(III) complexes, inspired by Triapine, are developed as theranostic agents. Multiphoton FLIM and confocal microscopy in cancer cells and zebrafish reveal real‐time uptake, mitochondrial localisation, and whilst spectroscopic assays indicated preserved complex ...

Phase Diagrams and Piezoelectric Properties of Wurtzite Al1−x−yScxGdyN Heterostructural Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates ferroelectricity and piezoelectric properties improvement of quaternary wurtzite Al1−x−yScxGdyN${\rm Al}_{1-x-y}{\rm Sc}_x{\rm Gd}_y{\rm N}$ films, guided by density functional theory calculations. Wurtzite Al1−x−yScxGdyN${\rm Al}_{1-x-y}{\rm Sc}_x{\rm Gd}_y{\rm N}$ films have a high optical bandgap, enhanced piezoelectric ...

Iron‐Mediated Release of Aged Dissolved Organic Carbon From Waterlogged Peatland Under Warming

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study conducts a five‐year in situ warming experiment in high‐altitude peatlands to examine dissolved organic carbon (DOC) release. The study shows that warming promotes the release of plant‐derived modern DOC in drained peatlands, but amplifies aquatic export of century‐old DOC from waterlogged peatlands via Fe‐mediated DOC mobilization—a ...

ROS Self‐Supply Nanoplatform Based on Fenton Catalyst for Chemodynamic and Immunotherapy: Reprogramming Cold Tumor Into Hot Tumor in Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multifunctional HA‐conjugated nanoplatform (HA‐PGMC) integrates CuO2, glucose oxidase, and mil‐100 to enable cascade catalytic ROS generation in tumor microenvironments. This self‐supplying ROS strategy induces immunogenic cell death, reprograms “cold” tumors into “hot” ones, and synergizes with PD‐L1 blockade, achieving potent chemodynamic ...

Voltage-dependent anion channel in mammalian spermatozoa

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2010
Voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) is a multi-functional channel protein in the mitochondrial outer membrane of all eukaryotes. It is involved in extensive physiological and pathophysiological processes. However there is only scant information about VDAC in mammalian reproduction, fertility and development in the past.

Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel (VDAC) in the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2010
Voltage‐dependent anion channels (VDACs) have originally been characterized as mitochondrial porins. Starting in the late 1980s, however, evidence began to accumulate that VDACs can also be expressed in plasma membranes. In this review, we briefly revisit the historical milestones in the discovery of plasma membrane‐bound VDAC, and we critically ...

The functions of voltage-dependent anion channels in plants

Apoptosis, 2013
Voltage-dependent anion channels (VDACs), known as outer mitochondrial membrane proteins, are present in all eukaryotic cells. In mammals, they are now recognized to play crucial roles in the regulation of metabolic and energetic functions of mitochondria as well as in mitochondria-mediated apoptosis, in association with various proteins and non ...

The voltage-dependent anion channel: an essential player in apoptosis

Biochimie, 2002
The increase of outer mitochondrial membrane permeability is a central event in apoptotic cell death, since it releases several apoptogenic factors such as cytochrome c into the cytoplasm that activate the downstream destructive processes. The voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC or mitochondrial porin) plays an essential role in the increase of ...
