Wnt signaling during tooth replacement in zebrafish (Danio rerio) : pitfalls and perspectives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The canonical (13-catenin dependent) Wnt signaling pathway has emerged as a likely candidate for regulating tooth replacement in continuously renewing dentitions.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Axon guidance and injury — lessons from Wnts and Wnt signaling [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Neurobiology, 2014
Many studies in the past decade have revealed the role and mechanisms of Wnt signaling in axon guidance during development and the reinduction of Wnt signaling in adult central nervous system axons upon traumatic injury, which has profound influences on axon regeneration.

Basroparib inhibits YAP‐driven cancers by stabilizing angiomotin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Basroparib, a selective tankyrase inhibitor, suppresses Wnt signaling and attenuates YAP‐driven oncogenic programs by stabilizing angiomotin. It promotes AMOT–YAP complex formation, enforces cytoplasmic YAP sequestration, inhibits YAP/TEAD transcription, and sensitizes YAP‐active cancers, including KRAS‐mutant colorectal cancer, to MEK inhibition.

NORRIN plays a context-dependent role in glioblastoma stem cells

open access: yesMolecular & Cellular Oncology, 2020
We recently reported a novel role of the atypical Wnt ligand, NORRIN, in mediating the proliferation and stemness of glioblastoma stem cells. Mechanistic and functional analysis revealed context-specific phenotypes in which NORRIN can induce opposite ...

Ellagic Acid Attenuates BLM-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis via Inhibiting Wnt Signaling Pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2021
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive lung disease with high mortality and limited therapy that is characterized by epithelial cell damage and fibroblast activation.

Dissecting the impact of Frizzled receptors in Wnt/beta-catenin signaling of human mesenchymal stem cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Wnt/beta-catenin signaling is of fundamental importance in the regulation of self-renewal, migration/invasion, and differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs).

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Overcoming resistance to immunotherapy by teaching old drugs new tricks

open access: yesMolecular & Cellular Oncology, 2020
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) underlie resistance to therapy. Cancer develops only in the context of failing immunosurveillance, and stem cells occupy immune privileged microenvironments.

Selective Activation of Alternative MYC Core Promoters by Wnt-Responsive Enhancers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In Metazoans, transcription of most genes is driven by the use of multiple alternative promoters. Although the precise regulation of alternative promoters is important for proper gene expression, the mechanisms that mediates their differential ...
