Applied research note: Reliability in using live palpation scores to evaluate woody breast severity in commercial broilers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Poultry Research
Summary: The broiler industry has observed an increase in the incidence and severity of myopathies in recent years, which has negatively affected meat quality and compromised consumer acceptance of fresh and processed products.

Proteomic analyses on chicken breast meat with white striping myopathy

open access: yesPoultry Science
: White striping (WS) is an emerging myopathy that results in significant economic losses as high as $1 billion (combined with losses derived from other breast myopathies including woody breast and spaghetti meat) to the global poultry industry.

Self-assembly, nematic phase formation and organocatalytic behaviour of a proline-functionalized lipopeptide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The self-assembly of the amphiphilic lipopeptide PAEPKI-C16 (P = proline, A = alanine, E = glutamic acid, K = lysine, I = isoleucine, C16 = hexadecyl) was investigated using a combination of spectroscopic, microscopic and scattering methods and compared ...

Influence of Utilizing Breast Meat Afflicted with Woody Breast Myopathy on Sausage Textural Properties

open access: yesMeat and Muscle Biology, 2019
ObjectivesWoody breast (WB) myopathy reduces the utility and value of breast meat for the broiler industry. It is hypothesized that WB meat may be included in comminuted products to increase utility and ultimately add value to the broiler industry.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Quantum Blue Reduces the Severity of Woody Breast Myopathy via Modulation of Oxygen Homeostasis-Related Genes in Broiler Chickens

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
The incidence of woody breast (WB) is increasing on a global scale representing a significant welfare problem and economic burden to the poultry industry and for which there is no effective treatment due to its unknown etiology.

Effects of the in ovo injection of vitamin D3 and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 in Ross 708 broilers subsequently fed commercial or calcium and phosphorus-restricted diets. I. Performance, carcass characteristics, and incidence of woody breast myopathy1,2,3

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2021
: Effects of the in ovo-injection of vitamin D3 (D3) and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25OHD3) on broiler performance, carcass characteristics, and woody breast myopathy (WBM) incidence were investigated.
