7-Keto-Cholesterol and Cholestan-3beta, 5alpha, 6beta-Triol Induce Eryptosis through Distinct Pathways Leading to NADPH Oxidase and Nitric Oxide Synthase Activation [PDF]
BACKGROUND/AIMS: We showed that patho-physiological concentrations of either 7-keto-cholesterol (7-KC), or cholestane-3beta, 5alpha, 6beta-triol (TRIOL) caused the eryptotic death of human red blood cells (RBC), strictly dependent on the early production

Background Methotrexate (MTX) is the first‐line therapy for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), but up to 40% of patients don't respond. Low inosine‐triphosphate‐pyrophosphatase (ITPA) activity has been associated with reduced clinical remission. We investigated ITPA role and the underlying mechanisms in vitro.

Xanthine oxidoreductase and xanthine oxidase in human cornea.
Xanthine oxidoreductase (xanthine dehydrogenase + xanthine oxidase) is a complex enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine, subsequently producing uric acid. The enzyme complex exists in separate but interconvertible forms, xanthine dehydrogenase and xanthine oxidase, which generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), a well known ...

Reductive activation of potential antitumor bis(aziridinyl)benzoquinones by xanthine oxidase: Competition between oxygen reduction and quinone reduction [PDF]
The reduction of a series of 2,5-bis(1-aziridinyl)-1,4-benzoquinone (BABQ) derivatives with various 3,6 substituents by the enzyme xanthine oxidase has been studied.

While the event‐free survival (EFS) of children treated for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) has improved greatly in the last decades, the EFS for patients diagnosed with ALL before the age of one is still under 50%. This outcome further decreases when infants have a rearrangement in the gene encoding histone‐lysine N‐methyltransferase 2A (KMT2A ...

Sulfite: Cytochrome \u3cem\u3ec\u3c/em\u3e Oxidoreductase from \u3cem\u3eThiobacillus novellus\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]
Direct oxidation of sulfite to sulfate occurs in various photo- and chemotrophic sulfur oxidizing microorganisms as the final step in the oxidation of reduced sulfur compounds and is catalyzed by sulfite:cytochrome c oxidoreductase (EC1.8.2.1).

Inherited metabolic epilepsies–established diseases, new approaches
Abstract Inherited metabolic epilepsies (IMEs) represent the inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) in which epilepsy is a prevailing component, often determining other neurodevelopmental outcomes associated with the disorder. The different metabolic pathways affected by individual IMEs are the basis of their rarity and heterogeneity.

Xanthine Accumulation during Hypoxanthine Oxidation by Milk Xanthine Oxidase [PDF]
Accumulation of xanthine as well as uric acid, was found as a result of hypoxanthine oxidation by xanthine: oxygen oxidoreductase from milk. The ratio xanthine/uric acid increases with hypoxanthine concentration, and decreases with the enzyme concentration and the reaction time.
