Biomimetic and Compressible Wood Phase Change Gel With Hierarchically Aligned Lamellar Structure for Controlled Thermal Management

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Inspired by skeletal muscle thermogenesis, a wood phase change gel exhibiting mechano‐controlled heat release is developed. Under compression, the wood phase change gel overcomes its energy barrier, inducing its phase change from supercooling to crystallization and raising its overall temperature by around 5°C.

Anti‐Inflammatory Effects of Flavonoids in Otitis Media: A Systematic Review of Pre‐Clinical Evidence

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Otitis media (OM) is a middle ear infection driven by chronic inflammation, leading to tissue damage and complications such as cholesteatoma. Flavonoids, a class of polyphenols with anti‐inflammatory properties, suppress key inflammatory mediators, reducing neutrophilic infiltration and mucosal thickening. These findings suggest flavonoids as potential

Medicine‐Food Plant Polysaccharides Modulate Diabetes and Diabetic Complications Through Maintaining Gut Function: A Review

open access: yesFood Frontiers, EarlyView.
Polysaccharides derived from medicine‐food plants restore intestinal barrier integrity and microbiota balance while modulating short‐chain fatty acid levels. These modifications significantly alleviate diabetes and its complications, including nephropathy, retinopathy, cardiovascular disease, and neuropathy.

Identification of genes involved in xylose metabolism of Meyerozyma guilliermondii and their genetic engineering for increased xylitol production

open access: yesAMB Express, 2020
Meyerozyma guilliermondii, a non-conventional yeast that naturally assimilates xylose, is considered as a candidate for biotechnological production of the sugar alternative xylitol. Because the genes of the xylose metabolism were yet unknown, all efforts

A Randomized Crossover Clinical Study to Assess the Effect of Oral Nicotine Pouches Used for Different Durations on Plasma Nicotine Pharmacokinetics in Healthy Oral Pouch Consumers

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Oral nicotine pouches (NPs), although addictive and not risk‐free, have potential application for a tobacco harm reduction approach. This study aims to further characterize their ability to deliver nicotine effectively. This randomized seven‐way crossover PK study in healthy oral pouch consumers evaluated 11 and 20 mg NPs used for 10, 20, and ...

Exploring the Phytochemical and Physical Stability of Phycocyanin, Anthocyanins, and Betacyanin in a Cheesecake Product

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, EarlyView.
Phycocyanin, anthocyanins, and betacyanin were tested with various sweeteners (sucrose, fructose, dextrose, xylitol, sorbitol) to assess their impact on color retention, antioxidant activity, and sensory properties. Key parameters investigated include pigment degradation, antioxidant performance, color measurements, and consumer acceptability, offering

Optimization of Lipase Catalysed Synthesis of Sugar Alcohol Esters Using Taguchi Method and Neural Network Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Xylitol esters were successfully prepared from reactions of xylitol with free fatty acids (stearic acid, palmitic acid and capric acid), using enzymes as biocatalyst in an organic solvent system.

Thermo-mechanical processing of sugar beet pulp. III. Study of extruded films improvement with various plasticizers and cross-linkers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Thermoplastic sugar beet pulp (thermo-mechanical processing was discussed in previous studies) was formed into film strips by extrusion. Film tensile properties are discussed according to the molecular structure of external plasticizer.

Effects of Xylitol on Xylitol-Sensitive Versus Xylitol-Resistant Streptococcus mutans Strains in a Three-Species in Vitro Biofilm

open access: yesCurrent Microbiology, 2012
We studied the effects of xylitol on biofilms containing xylitol-resistant (Xr) and xylitol-sensitive (Xs) Streptococcus mutans, Actinomyces naeslundii and S. sanguinis. The biofilms were grown for 8 and 24 h on hydroxyapatite discs. The viable microorganisms were determined by plate culturing techniques and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH ...
