Xylooligosaccharides: manufacture and applications
Trends in Food Science & Technology, 2000Xylooligosaccharides (sugar oligomers made up of xylose units) are useful for a variety of purposes. This article reviews the production of xylooligosaccharides from lignocellulosic materials (by chemical or enzymatic methods) and the purification of the end products, as well as their application as food ingredients, with special attention to the ...

Physicochemical properties of cookies enriched with xylooligosaccharides
Food Science and Technology International, 2015The growing commercial importance of xylooligosaccharides is based on their beneficial health properties, particularly their ability to stimulate the growth and activity of intestinal bacteria such as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species. Xylooligosaccharides are less sweet, acid, and heat stable, with low recommended levels of intake compared to ...

The hydrolysis of xylan and xylooligosaccharides by ruminal enzymes
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1957Abstract Xylan is hydrolyzed to a mixture of xylooligosaccharides by enzymes in the rumen of the bovine. A random hydrolysis of the xylosidic bonds of xylan, xylotetraose, xylotriose, and xylobiose is effected. Several bacterial cultures obtained from the rumen contents were shown to produce xylan-hydrolyzing enzymes.

Recent advances in the enzymatic production and applications of xylooligosaccharides
World Journal of Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2021The majority of lignocellulosic biomass on the planet originates from plant cell walls, which are complex structures build up mainly by cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. The largest part of hemicellulose, xylan, is a polymer with a β-(1→4)-linked xylose residues backbone decorated with α-D-glucopyranosyl uronic acids and/or L-arabinofuranose ...

Evaluating the addition of xylooligosaccharides into alginate-gelatin hydrogels
Food Research International, 2021Xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are emerging prebiotic that may improve structural features of biopolymer blends. The investigation around the conformation of XOS into the matrix of alginate and gelatin clarifies the potential applications of this formulation in the food industry as texture modifiers or encapsulation systems.

Membrane-Assisted Processing of Xylooligosaccharide-Containing Liquors
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2006Liquors from rice husk autohydrolyis, containing xylooligosaccharides, other saccharides, and nonsaccharide compounds, were subjected to two selected processing schemes to increase the proportion of substituted xylooligosaccharides in refined liquors. Nanofiltration through a ceramic membrane with a molecular mass cutoff of 1000 Da allowed simultaneous

Enzymatic Production of Xylooligosaccharides from Cotton Stalks
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007Xylooligosaccharide (XO) production was performed from xylan, which was obtained by alkali extraction from cotton stalk, a major agricultural waste in Turkey. Enzymatic hydrolysis was selected to prevent byproduct formation such as xylose and furfural.

Xylooligosaccharides Production from Arundo donax
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007Samples of Arundo donax were subjected to isothermal autohydrolysis, defined by temperature, 150-195 degrees C; time, 0-15 h; and liquor to solid ratio, 8 g/g. The effect of the operational variables on the yield and composition of both liquid and solid phases obtained after the treatments has been studied.

Maltodextrin: A consummate carrier for spray-drying of xylooligosaccharides
Food Research International, 2018The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of spray-drying on the powder qualities and microstructures of prebiotic xylooligosaccharides (XOS). The relationships between glass transition temperature (Tg) and XOS retention, moisture content, drying yield as well as specific surface area under different inlet air temperatures and maltodextrin ...

Preparation and Analysis of Cello- and Xylooligosaccharides
2015This review provides a general overview of preparation, separation, and analytical methods for cello- and xylooligosaccharides. Arising as side-stream products of different biorefinery processes, these compounds have increasingly gained the interest of researchers and engineers in the last few decades. Beside their application as additives in the food,
