Catabolite repression of xylose isomerase synthesis in Arthrobacter ureafaciens

Microbiology, 2008
The effect of a specific substrate as well as other carbon sources on the biosynthesis of xylose isomerase in the actinobacterium Arthrobacter ureafaciens BIM B-6 has been studied. It was established that xylose and its structural analogue xylite induced the production of the enzyme by bacterial cells.

Molecular Simulations of Solute Transport in Xylose Isomerase Crystals

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2008
Cross-linked enzyme crystals (CLECs) enclose an extensive regular matrix of chiral solvent-filled nanopores, via which ions and solutes travel in and out. Several cross-linked enzyme crystals have recently been used for chiral separation and as biocatalysts. We studied the dynamics of solute transport in orthorhombic d-xylose isomerase (XI) crystals by

Optimizing crystal volume for neutron diffraction: D-xylose isomerase

European Biophysics Journal, 2006
Neutron diffraction is uniquely sensitive to hydrogen positions and protonation state. In that context structural information from neutron data is complementary to that provided through X-ray diffraction. However, there are practical obstacles to overcome in fully exploiting the potential of neutron diffraction, i.e.

[Xylose isomerase constitutive biosynthesis in Arthrobacter nicotianae].

Prikladnaia biokhimiia i mikrobiologiia, 2010
The specific features of biosynthesis of the cell-bound xylose isomerase by the actinobacterium Arthrobacter nicotianae BIM V-5 were studied. It was demonstrated that the constitutive synthesis of this enzyme in the studied bacteria, not subject to catabolite repression, was inhibited by xylulose, an intermediate product ofxylose utilization and the ...

Eukaryotic cell comprising xylose isomerase

Eukaryotic cell comprising a heterologous xylose isomerase, wherein the xylose isomerase is loaded with Mn and wherein the Mn metal loading is at least 0.10 mol Mn (mol XylA subunit)-1, preferably about 0.30 mol Mn (mol XylA subunit)-1.

Xylose isomerase: From fundamental research to applied enzyme technology

Journal of Biotechnology
Xylose isomerases (XI, EC 5.3.1.5) are key enzymes for the metabolism of pentoses by microorganisms. The importance of XIs goes beyond academic biochemical research and the catalysis of aldo-ketose conversion by XIs is among the most successful examples of industrial enzyme technology in a market that generates multibillion dollar annual revenues. Here
