Development of a Synthetic 3D Platform for Compartmentalized Kidney In Vitro Disease Modeling
A fully synthetic, compartmentalized 3D kidney disease model is introduced. The kidney model combines a PEG‐based hydrogel matrix with anisotropic, enzymatically degradable rod‐shaped microgels to spatially arrange a triple co‐culture of key renal epithelial, endothelial, and fibroblast cells.

Regulation of dendritic filopodial interactions by ZO-1 and implications for dendrite morphogenesis. [PDF]
Neuronal dendrites dynamically protrude many fine filopodia in the early stages of neuronal development and gradually establish complex structures. The importance of the dendritic filopodia in the formation of axo-dendritic connections is established ...

Bile duct ligation in the rat causes upregulation of ZO-2 and decreased colocalization of claudins with ZO-1 and occludin [PDF]
As the only barrier between blood and bile compartments hepatocellular tight junctions play a crucial role in cholestasis-induced increase of biliary permeability. The molecular basis of this reversible defect is not known.

Neuregulin-1 attenuates experimental cerebral malaria (ECM) pathogenesis by regulating ErbB4/AKT/STAT3 signaling. [PDF]
BACKGROUND:Human cerebral malaria (HCM) is a severe form of malaria characterized by sequestration of infected erythrocytes (IRBCs) in brain microvessels, increased levels of circulating free heme and pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, brain ...

The biomimetic nanoplatform IMNP (ETS1 pDNA/PBAE@ITP‐MM) undergoes targeted disassembly at inflammatory vascular sites to release the ETS1 plasmid (pETS1). This release initiates a cascade of effects that inhibit pathogenic pathways and support immune homeostasis. (Abbreviations: EndMT, endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition; EC, endothelial cell; TC, T

Modeling the blood–brain tumor barrier is challenging due to complex interactions between brain microvasculature and glioma cells. We present two‐photon polymerized 3D micro‐porous capillary‐like structures that support endothelial alignment, cytoskeletal organization, and pericyte‐endothelial‐glioma tri‐cultures.

Zonula occludens 1 as a novel biomarker in decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis with hepatorenal syndrome [PDF]
Aim: Our previous study provided evidence that systemic zonula occludens (ZO) 1 levels are elevated in cirrhotic and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Here, we aimed to evaluate serum ZO-1 levels in patients with decompensated alcoholic cirrhosis (

Circular RNA PTPN4 Contributes to Blood‐Brain Barrier Disruption during Early Epileptogenesis
Epileptic condition induces CircPTPN4 upregulation, which promotes ECE‐1 expression through competitive sequestration of miR‐145a‐5p. The elevated ECE‐1 catalyzes the ET‐1 production, leading to p38/MAPK pathway activation and subsequent downregulation of tight junction protein expression. This cascade results in increased BBB permeability and enhanced
