In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

A Goldilocks approach to transdisciplinary learning

open access: yesJournal of the European Honors Council
In today’s world, education is increasingly being called upon to do more. Beyond transmitting knowledge, we need to cultivate both capability and agency in learners to navigate the complexity and uncertainty of our time.

Creating a bigger ZPD by extending learning process via online forum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Formal learning usually takes place in a four wall classroom. An extension of learning process may continue to occur in a conventional setting where learners get together physically after class hours.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

ATF3 upregulation in glia during Wallerian degeneration: differential expression in peripheral nerves and CNS white matter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background: Many changes in gene expression occur in distal stumps of injured nerves but the transcriptional control of these events is poorly understood.

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Teacher Feedback, Learner Dialogue, and the Zone of Proximal Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...
