Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Scaffolding, the Zone of Proximal Development, and Novice Programmers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The work, which is part of a doctoral research project, reported here aims to explore the learning strategies that novice computer programmers adopt when writing code, the ways in which they integrate knowledge, and the processes they employ when ...

Multi-Armed Bandits for Intelligent Tutoring Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present an approach to Intelligent Tutoring Systems which adaptively personalizes sequences of learning activities to maximize skills acquired by students, taking into account the limited time and motivational resources.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Teacher Feedback, Learner Dialogue, and the Zone of Proximal Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

Gene regulatory network subcircuit controlling a dynamic spatial pattern of signaling in the sea urchin embryo [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We dissect the transcriptional regulatory relationships coordinating the dynamic expression patterns of two signaling genes, wnt8 and delta, which are central to specification of the sea urchin embryo endomesoderm.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Reflections on the Ecolab and the Zone of Proximal Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In 1999 we reported a study that explored the way that Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development could be used to inform the design of an Interactive Learning Environment called the Ecolab.

The position of graptolites within Lower Palaeozoic planktic ecosystems. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
An integrated approach has been used to assess the palaeoecology of graptolites both as a discrete group and also as a part of the biota present within Ordovician and Silurian planktic realms.
