The scale matters: A review on stimuli‐responsive microrobots categorized by scale for biomedical applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
We systematically summarize how each scale dictates fundamental choices in design feature, manufacturing technology, driving mechanism, and control strategy, which are inherently governed by scale‐dominated physical principles. Furthermore, the application of scale‐determined operation modes of microrobots across different stages of medical ...

Polyesterase activity and thermostability of carboxylesterases from Thermoleophilum album YS‐3

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Three novel α/β‐hydrolases from thermophilic bacterium Thermoleophilum album display carboxylesterase and polyesterase activity. These enzymes hydrolyse PET, PLA and PCL both at high and moderate temperatures. TA21 shows superior activity, efficiently converting MHET to terephthalic acid. Structural features underlying substrate binding highlight their

Development of iminosugar-based glycosidase inhibitors as drug candidates for SARS-CoV-2 virus via molecular modelling and in vitro studies

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry
We developed new iminosugar-based glycosidase inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2. Known drugs (miglustat, migalastat, miglitol, and swainsonine) were chosen as lead compounds to develop three classes of glycosidase inhibitors (α-glucosidase, α-galactosidase ...

Investigating transthyretin variants H88R and I107V in amyloid priming: From destabilization to complete dissociation

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Investigated mutations in transthyretin (TTR) disrupt the F87‐centered hydrophobic core that stabilizes its tetrameric structure. The mild I107V mutation weakens inter‐chain packing, while H88R fully abolishes tetramer formation, yielding a monomeric, aggregation‐prone form. Structural, biophysical, and computational analyses reveal that both mutations

Evaluation of In Vitro Antioxidant, Anti-Obesity, and Anti-Diabetic Activities of [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Opuntia ficus cladodes (OFC) are considered one of the wastes that result from opuntia cultivation, and their disposal by traditional methods results in many environmental problems. Therefore, this study was conducted with two aims.

Discovery of a cryptic aminoacidic triad involved in the temperature adaptation of GH1 enzymes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Cold‐active enzymes retain high catalytic activity at low temperatures but are characterized by thermal instability, a behavior not fully understood. Comparison between a cold‐active GH1 and its mesophilic counterparts highlights the role of a three‐residue motif (W‐M‐F) in conferring structural stability to a mesophilic GH1.

Acarbose glycosylation by AcbE for the production of acarstatins with enhanced α-amylase inhibitory activity

open access: yesSynthetic and Systems Biotechnology
Acarbose is a potent glycosidase inhibitor widely used in the clinical treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Various acarbose analogs have been identified while exploring compounds with improved pharmacological properties. In this study, we found

Three Closely Related Spodoptera Species Similarly Affect Gene Expression and Phytohormone Levels but Differentially Induce Volatile Emissions in Maize

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plants can perceive specific elicitors in the oral secretions (OS) of herbivorous insects and respond by increasing their defences. Whether plants can discriminate among similar herbivorous insect species and differentially modulate their defence responses against them is largely unknown.
