Antigen-specific response of murine immune system toward a yeast β-glucan preparation, zymosan [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Immunology & Medical Microbiology, 1999
Zymosan, a particulate beta-glucan preparation from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, shows various biological activities, including anti-tumor activity. We have previously shown that soluble beta-glucan initiated anti-tumor activity was long-lived and was effective even by prophylactic treatment at 1 month prior to tumor challenge.

Effects of dietary β-glucans on the productive performance, blood parameters, and intestinal microbiota of angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) juveniles [PDF]

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
Among the potential feed additives, β-glucans are known to positively affect the growth performance, blood parameters, and intestinal microbiota of fish, even the ornamental species.

Association of immunological disorders in lethal side effect of NSAIDs on β-glucan-administered mice [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Immunology & Medical Microbiology, 2001
(1-->3)-beta-D-Glucan (beta-glucan) is a biological response modifier that regulates host immune response. We have found that the combination of a beta-glucan and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), indomethacin (IND), induced lethal toxicity in mice [Yoshioka et al. (1998) FEMS Immunol. Med. Microbiol., 21, 171-179].

Immune Status and Hepatic Antioxidant Capacity of Gilthead Seabream Sparus aurata Juveniles Fed Yeast and Microalga Derived β-glucans

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2021
This work aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with β-glucans extracted from yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and microalga (Phaeodactylum tricornutum) on gene expression, oxidative stress biomarkers and plasma immune parameters in ...

Characterization of an unglycosylated low molecular weight 1,4-β-glucan-glucanohydrolase ofTrichoderma reesei [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1990
A low molecular weight endoglucanase (1,4-beta-glucan glucanohydrolase E.C.3.2.1.4) was purified to homogeneity by a two-step procedure from 7 day old culture filtrates of Trichoderma reesei. The endoglucanase was obtained by BioGel A 0.5 m gel chromatography followed by preparative PAGIF. The purified endoglucanase was homogeneous upon titration curve

Effect of acid hydrolysis on the structural and antioxidant characteristics of β-glucan extracted from Qingke (Tibetan hulless barley)

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
In this study, we explored the effect of acid hydrolysis on the molecular, structural, rheological, thermal, and antioxidant characteristics of Qingke β-glucan. The acid hydrolysis reduced the molecular weights of β-glucans from 510 to 155 KDa.

Duality of β-glucan microparticles: antigen carrier and immunostimulants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Designing efficient recombinant mucosal vaccines against enteric diseases is still a major challenge. Mucosal delivery of recombinant vaccines requires encapsulation in potent immunostimulatory particles to induce an efficient immune response. This paper

β-Glucan production of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in medium with different nitrogen sources in air-lift fermentor

open access: yesBiodiversitas Journal of Biological Diversity, 2007
β-Glucan is one of the most abundant polysaccharides in yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell wall. The aim of this research is to explore an alternative nitrogen sources for β-glucan production. S. cerevisiae were grown in fermentation medium with different nitrogen sources. Peptone 2%, glutamic acid 0,5%, urea 0,2%, and diammonium hydrogen phosphate (
