Soluble mannan and β-glucan inhibit the uptake ofMalassezia furfurby human monocytic cell line, THP-1 [PDF]
The uptake of live and heat-killed Malassezia furfur HIC 3321, HIC 3343 and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 by human monocytic cell line, THP-1, was examined. THP-1 was differentiated by PMA for 7 days before use. The uptake of these yeasts by THP-1 was increased in a concentration-dependent manner of yeasts, and the uptake reached plateau level at the E/T

Research Progress on the Mechanism and Structure-Activity Relationship of β-Glucans in Regulating the Health Effects of Gut Microbiota [PDF]
β-Glucans, dietary polysaccharides coming from a wide variety of sources, have been researched intensively. Being resistant to oral and gastrointestinal digestion, β-glucans can reach the colon where they are fermented by the gut microbiota, generating ...

β-glucans and probiotics [PDF]
In the recent decades, several health-promoting features have been ascribed to β-glucans. Biological properties such as anti-cancer, antiinflammatory and immune-modulating activity have been claimed for these polysaccharides.

Structures, Biosynthesis, and Physiological Functions of (1,3;1,4)-β-d-Glucans
(1,3;1,4)-β-d-Glucans, also named as mixed-linkage glucans, are unbranched non-cellulosic polysaccharides containing both (1,3)- and (1,4)-β-linkages.

β-glucans and eicosapolyenoic acids as MAMPs in plant–oomycete interactions: past and present [PDF]
Branched β-1,3-glucans and the eicosapolyenoic acids (EP) are among the best characterized oomycete elicitors that trigger innate immune responses in plants. These elicitors were identified over three decades ago, and they were useful in the study of the sequence of physiological, biochemical and molecular events that induce resistance in plants ...

Overview of (1→3)-β-D-glucan immunobiology
Glucans are (1→3)-β-D-glucose polymers that are found in the cell wall of fungi, bacteria and plants. Glucans are known to stim ulate humoral and cell-mediated immunity in humans and animals.

Effects of Medicinal Fungi-Derived β-Glucan on Tumor Progression
β-Glucans have been studied in animal species, from earthworms to humans. They form a heterogenous group of glucose polymers found in fungi, plants, bacteria, and seaweed.

Novel Antihypertension Mechanism of β-Glucan by Corin and ANP-Mediated Natriuresis in Mice
Many of the β-glucans are known to have antihypertensive activities, but, except for angiotensin-converting enzyme II inhibition, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Corin is an atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP)-converting enzyme.
